Smooth but short lasting

Good afternoon fellow wet shavers,

The Red Personnas are smooth and get you 1-2 good shaves but last not as long as Derby Extras, not to mention Merkurs, the latter IMHO one of the best available but somewhat pricey.

Kind regards,

2 weeks for normal case

Good morning fellow wet shavers, In extreme and obvious cases agree 2 weeks trial not required. However many blades shave well for many people. An example are Feathers that I tested for several periods in several razors before reaching a conclusion. They might work well for some in a Weishi. Gist: D...

Derby standard instead of Extra

Good morning fellow wet shavers,

Derby blades come in at least 2 varieties, Standard and Extra. The Extras are rust-free.

Derby Extras mild

Good morning fellow wet shavers, My humble experience is the opposite: Derbys are mild whilst Crystals are rather harsh. Also find Merkurs milder than Chrystals. When shaving with a DE, Derby is my standard blade. US Personnas are smooth but have a much shorter life span than either Derbys of Merkur...

Apples vs. oranges?

Good afternoon fellow wet shavers, My humble experience cannot confirm that the Weishi is milder than a vintage Gillette Tech. Other things being equal, the Weishi gives me a closer shave. With a Gillette Super Speed, shaving closeness and comfort seem similar to the Weishi, not surprising in view o...

Listerine for generations

Good afternoon fellow wet shavers,

My grandfather used Listerine, my father as well, and yours truly, who duly introduced his two sons to it. Listerine is used in conjunction with a tongue scraper. No bad breath.

Its "corollary" tooth paste is Euthymol, made in the UK.

Most of us are collectors!

Good morning fellow shavers,

NEED ? 1 only

Collect : several to many.

There is a sub-group amongst us who rotate all or most of their razors in actual use. Variety is a spice of life.

File or sand-paper down the stubs

Good morning Fatlab, As explained in yours truly's last post, you simply have to file or sand-paper down thus protruding stubs. The razor then can no longer scratch and is quite good. This has been discussed in other fora. One is tempted to suspect that Wilkinson deliberately left this manufacturing...

Gone from Switzerland

Good evening fellow wet shavers, The Wilkinson Classic was the last DE razor readily available in Switzerland until about 2 years ago when Wilkinson removed it from the market, trying to force everyone to buy very expensive cartridges. The model sold here had to be "tuned" by reducing the ...

WTB: "Aggressive" gold plated Gill. Aristocrat or

Good evening fellow wet shavers, The only DE razor that still interests me to add to my collection would be a so-called "aggressive" or "harsh" gold plated Gillette Aristocrat or President. One occasionally reads such adjectives about the English Gillette Aristocrat, one of my fa...

Excellent shaver

Good evening fellow wet shavers, I have an identical English Gillette Aristocrat but not quite in such perfect condition. It is one of my favourite shavers and my travel razor. Definitely not for sale or trade. When I got it for GBP 6, it was filthy but it cleaned up beautifully. Kind regards, lux

Good evening fellow wet shavers,

Has it also struck your attention the Maestro Livi (the correct Italian spelling used in the title of this thread) misspells himself "Mastro" at Classing Shaving?

Price comparisons

Good evening fellow wet shavers, Thank you for the information on beef meat prices in the USofA. In spite of the US dollar falling below parity against the Swiss franc (I can still remember when one had to pay 4.30 Swiss francs for 1 US dollar in 1970), the meat prices you quote do not seem so favou...

Just out of curiosity, how much does a kilogramme of prime ribeye beef steak cost currently in the USofA (1 kg = 2.2 lb.)?

Headshaving

Good morning fellow wet shavers, Weishi is a mild razor, optimal for learning head shaving with a DE. There is basically no difference between the techniques of face and head shaving. Use the full programme, proper preparation, first pass with the grain, 2nd pass against the grain, 3rd pass across t...

SMF BBQ at Tony's?

Good evening fellow wet shavers, Why not plan attendance at an SMF BBQ weekend event? For yours truly, due to additional internal repair work scheduled late this spring, September would be about the earliest feasible date, perhaps too late for others. SE in between DE and straight razors

Good evening fellow wet shavers, Technically and historically, SE (single edge) razors and blades are in between straight and DE razors. My vote was mis-cast. I understood "scrub" as "wash well", not with a special exfoliating product.

My vote should have been "never".
