Re: Gillette English-made Rocket HD

Hi Gary. I purchased several HD Rockets during my accumulation phase several years ago. At the time, I found them to be smooth but not particularly efficient. Based on your experience, I'll dust one off and give it a whirl.

Re: Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil

I picked up a pack at my local Walgreens a couple of weeks ago. After a week of comfortable shaves from the first blade, I've found it to be nice indeed, clearly a top-tier product. After using a new Perma-Sharp Super Monday, I shaved with a fresh Brazilian Platinum-Plus Tuesday. Though very smooth,...

Re: Gillette "Reintros" DE Blades

I ran across a pack at Walgreen's yesterday, and used it for the first time this morning. First impression is that this is a top tier blade. Sharp, smooth, producing an effortless, close shave. It's very much like the best vintage stainless blades I've tried. Looking forward to an extended test. My ...

Re: Personna Hospital Use blade

Chuck I'm just following up to inquire how the blades have been performing for you, over the past few weeks or so. It's hard for me to believe I first posted about these blades in this thread going on 4 years ago. I've used and grown fond of the Kai DE blades in the past couple of years. They're go...

Re: Personna Hospital Use blade

While my first use of the Personna HU was superb, I wanted to try it in extended use to see how it stacked up against my favorites. Good news - I used it for ten shaves and it was still delivering smooth, close and effortless shaves. I binned it after my Sunday shave because my routine is to start o...

Re: Personna Hospital Use blade

Good to see you too, Tim! I just recalled that I had a near miss with the Personna HU's a couple of years ago. I, along with several others, ordered a 100 ct. carton from Robbins. The blades were not stamped "Hospital Use" though they arrived in an identical box. The Robbins folks checked ...

Re: Personna Hospital Use blade

I took Gary up on his offer of a few Hospital Use Personnas, and today was my inaugural shave. Having tried most of the various Personnas, I was astonished. This blade is very smooth, comfortable and sharp, much better than its stablemates. I agree with others that this shaves much like the 70's-80'...

Re: Simply "boared" with brushes

Michael, I've tried a great many badger and boar brushes as well. I wish that I had your inclination to dispatch unwanted items out the door. Unfortunately, I still own many nice badgers which do nothing but gather dust. After a lengthy flirtation with boar, I stumbled upon Vie-Long horse hair brush...

Gary, my pleasure in using Omega boars continues. For me, no badger provides the smooth, caressing and resilient face feel of an Omega boar. I still own many nice badger brushes, but they are locked away in the vaults. Though the custom boar handles are very nice, I've come to appreciate the simple ...

I have over 100 razors, but now shave almost exclusively with two.

In order of preference:

iKon OC Deluxe Bulldog (mine is #07, brushed finish)

English long-comb NEW with iKon Bulldog handle

Polsilver "is" Super Iridium with a different packaging. In my experience, as noted earlier in the thread, this is not correct. I found the new Polsilvers to be a serviceable blade, but not similar at all to the SI. The new Polsilvers remind me of Astras, decent but a bit harsh. The older...

Gary, have you been able to get past 3 shaves with the Polsilver's? I have found that 3 shaves is all the blade will give me, the 4th shave is just unbearable. The NOS Polsilve'rs gave a weeks worth of smooth shaves. The packaging and the blades are identical to NOS PS blades I have, but the shave ...

Supply and demand. The guys who want them are buying them. The guys who don't want them aren't. Example, I had a 1956 Belair 2 door hardtop V8 automatic that cost $20 once. I could be perfectly content with the Yellow. It's a very effective blade. However, I find the Iridium to be noticeably smoother.
