Frederik, Most manufactures would disclose only “hand-turned wooden bowl”.
D R Harris specifies beech wood and mahogany.

Were it a size 12, 14 or 16, I would have bitten. Sam, I cannot resist teasing. But I have the same Plisson EW burled walnut handle (plastic) in size 12. Similar to this . I used it for a very short time and with white soap only (D R Harris lavender). Like new condition. Had no intensions of sellin...

Thanks Peter, Last week I was able to gather encouraging information. Although it is not something I should take lightly, it may be doable, and most important enjoyable. From what I understand, by planning it logistically well, I may be able to bring the discomfort level down to a bare minimum. Inte...

Rich, 17,000 feet doesn’t sound like allot of fun. It looks much better in meters. Assuming they’ll not be willing to lower the Base Camp (even for me); I’ll have to listen to your words of wisdom and work a less ambitious plane, to view the mountains from somehow lower altitude. “Do not give up bef...

Rich, Thanks for the input. The highest altitude I ever experienced was in Cuzco (about 11,000 feet). I flew strait from Arequipa and suffered some headaches, but from this point even climbing a few additional feet, made a tremendous difference. My hope is to gradually acclimatize (perhaps I should ...

Trekking in the Everest region

Does anyone have any experience trekking the Himalayas? I am planning to trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp during spring 2007. I understand the trekking season is short, and therefore it should be plane ahead of time. If its doable, I would like to be on the trek between 10 to 14 days, do it priv...

Ok Sam, show your cards.

I’ll sell you a brand new size 12 Plisson. Never used (still in the original box), black badger, black handle, similar to this.
$60.00. I’ll include priority mail shipment, and a brand new Israeli MEM shaving cream tube.
Paypal.

Gordon, do you know if D R Harris made a sandalwood shaving soap in the past? I recall (back in the late seventies), purchasing one from a Madison Avenue perfume shop. I believe it was in the area of 53rd – 55th street, on the east side of the avenue. The scent was pure sandalwood, and not overly ag...

Chris I agree, and by no means find it misleading. Actually Taylor describes the sandalwood as a blend rather then a pure scent. The following is a quote from Taylor’s web site: “Sandalwood Collection: From the mystic east, we take a complex rich woody blend of exotic sweet scented Sandalwood and Ce...

Chris, I am not familiar with Zubin Mehta 1994 recording. Is it the Israeli Philharmonic or perhaps Vienna? No doubt, Mahler is his forte. Either way I am sure it’s going to be a nice treat. Although opinions about him (Mehta) may vary, personally I admire the precise and powerful way he conducts. I...

Thanks Nathan. This makes sense. Once we realize it’s the style and not the authenticity. Personally I am not a “Vintage” listener; I do agree Furtwangler’s interpretation, especially the 1944 Vienna Philharmonic, is superb, and so is Toscanini’s NBC orchestra recording. However, one must realize th...

Andre, Not trying to be cute, but I’ve been thinking about your post much of the day trying to understand your point. I am curios to what you meant by “the changes of the nature of orchestra after Wagner”? I am aware of Wagner’s enormous contribution to the opera, especially with the format of “The ...

(It is this very tendency that lead to my having 16 or so recordings of Beethoven's Eroica symphony. I didn't want 16 recordings; I just wanted that one version that hit all the right spots. Mike, Well, I am holding a tube of Ingram. The label reads: “Ingram, Quality lather shave, contains lanolin & menthol”. In my opinion, it doesn’t smell medicated at all, but rather a kind of gentle rose with a mint undertone. Is it possible you have a different scent? Mine is in a white tube wit...

Paddy,

Ingram is a very thin cream, with a mixture of rose and mint scent.
I got it in a London drugstore for under £2.00. Even for that price it’s hardly a bargain.

I kind of envy your friend. Pity, with my background (Israeli. Naturally with military background), chances are I would end up with a much too close Damascus shave.

Good to know Charles Tyrwhitt is using the Silver Tip, if it is, the Charles Tyrwhitt photograph does do it any justice. I was looking at this link, but I believe they are using the same photograph for all.

Edwin Jagger makes them in 3 grades (Best, Super, and Silver Tip).
Charles Tyrwhitt doesn’t give any indication of the grade they are using.
