How to use Alum?
I am interested in how to use Alum. Thanks to my education largely from the good folks at SMF, my nicks and cuts have greatly diminished but there are still a few sometimes. I've read of people using Alum after they shave to control small cuts and oozing but I don't know what to do with it. Any tips...

Recommend starter Badger brush
I've gradually been working on my shaving technique and equipment. Looking to upgrade from my starter boar brush from WalMart. What is a reasonably priced ($30-$50) middle of the road brush for soaps (Harris) to start on?
Thanks

Better quality "Best Badger" brush: Vulfix or Edwa
Still looking for my first "good" brush to upgrade from my starter VDH boar. Looking at Vulfix 403 or EJ Medium Best to start with. I mainly use soaps, with the occasional cream. Any input appreciated.
Thanks,
Jed

First "good" soap: Taylor's of Old Bond St?
Looking for first "good" soap and considering Taylor's of Old Bond St. Undecided on scent but that is not first consideration. Quality of lather, protection, ease of building lather, etc. much more important. What do you all think?
Thanks,
Jed

Hand-stropping blades?
I have just recently read a couple references to this and saw the one video that shows how on 3 types of blades. I am curious as to what this does, how many are doing it, do you do it before or after a shave, etc?

Feather first impression
Just trying out new blades and tried Feather blades for the first time last night. What a great shave! Way smoother than the Derby Extra I had been using. No irritation, especially compared to the Derby which gave some burn. Curious to see how long they last but impressed so far with no adverse effe...

Help ID this Gillette!
I need help ID'ing my grandfather's old Gillette that has gotten me started in DE wetshaving. I was under the impression that it is a Fatboy but I am not sure. The handle measures 3.16 in long, .445 in diameter at the end and the head is 1.71" long by .987" wide. The underside of the head ...

Number of shaves per blade?
I am still learning the DE finer points and just wondering how many shaves you all get on average per blade. I realize there is alot of variables but just a general guideline will do. I can detect when my blade gets dull and starts to pull so I replace it. I average 4-5 shaves but looking for input....

Help with Schick DE blades
I bought a pack of Schick brand blades at a local drug store about 3 or so years ago when I first found my grandfather's Gillette Fatboy. I recently drug them out and found them to give a pretty decent shave. I can no longer find them locally and just wondered if anyone knew anything about them. The...

Vulfix #403 good place to start?
Looking to upgrade from my VDH boar to my first badger. C&E out of BBB but saw the Vulfix Best Badger #403 at classicshaving.com for $39.99 and looked about right. This is about what I want to spend but want something that will do soaps and creams and hold up over time.

Working up a good lather?
I had been leaving the soap in the bowl I use to work up the lather but after watching Mantic's videos I see that he charges the brush and then takes it to the empty bowl to start the lather. I seem to make a decent lather leaving the soap in the same bowl but wondering if separate bowl is better? T...
