Private barber here, I still do hot lather face shaving

I do barbershop style shaving the way barbers did them in the 60s. I'm retired now and I offer my shaving service by appointment only. I am VERY GOOD at doing them. You won't be disappointed should you care to make an appointment. Included with my shaves is a full facial. Screenshot 2024-03-16 at 6....

Re: Shaving schedule

I auditioned 3 barbers for shaves over the past couple of weeks. I went to the local high end over priced shop. I was very disappointed. How can they call it a hot lather shave when the barber uses cold lather with a brush. Another barber isn't even worth mentioning. I went back to the guy I went to...

Back when a trip to the Barber shop was an event. Sad those days are gone.

Re: Does anybody miss the old days and getting a barber Shop Shave?

I LOVE getting a barber shop shave. I go once in awhile, sometimes I get lucky and find a decent shop. I miss the days where I was in the chair 40-60 minutes. Yes I miss the old days very much. I even write stories about it.

Re: Shaving schedule

I usually shave every other day. During cover I might have went 3-4 days between shaves. I was disappointed the barbershops were closed. I do like going to a barber for a hot lather one.

I like hearing from other barber shave fans and barbers that like to do them. :-)_/

Re: Barber Shop Shave - Your Expectations?

After I posted here, the thought of finding a barber got in my head. It was NYE day, and the urge for a barber shave was there. Fortunately I found a shop open. A very clean looking shop. 2 chairs one barber. I like the single barber shops. They are quiet, no distractions. I was the only one there.H...

Re: Barber Shop Shave - Your Expectations?

Now that I'm retired and living in Florida I'm searching for barber that does shaves. Too many hip hop barbers for the youngsters down here. Need to find one that will take care of an old guy. :-0_/ LM

Re: Question for you old farts and retirees?

I'm 65. I have more time on my hands. Would love to go to a barber shop for a shave like I did 45 years ago. Sadly I don't trust young barbers also not into the hip hop barber shops in my area. A gentleman's shop would be nice.

Does anybody miss the old days and getting a barber Shop Shave?

I know I'm dating myself, I haven't had a good barber shop shave in decades. I'd be afraid to go to these new hip hop barber shops for a shave. I remember the barbers I went to were 40-60 years old at the time. It was 46 years ago when I had my first barber shave and it was better than I could have ...

Best of luck Mike. I was fortunate to have access to first rate old time barbers when I was young but that era has passed. I think I caught the tail end of quality barber shop shaves. I remember laying in the chair for 40-60 minutes. It was such a gentle and relaxing experience, and the shaves woul...

Latherizer

I use Gabel's lather concentrate, makes a nicer lather than Campbell's concentrate. One really needs to use a base coat of cream with a latherizer. IE Lucky Tiger, Noxema, or Gabels shave cream in a jar. That's how the old school barbers did it in the 60s-70s. Then apply hot lather and a steam towel...
