Ok, talked a microbiologist here on campus.

Polyethlyene and polypropylene should be good at 121 C for 20 minutes. Do not autoclave polystyrene or it will melt. I would guess that you will need to find out what your handle is made of.

For razors: Surgeons autoclave metal instruments all the time (scapels, scissors etc...) with no ill effects. An all-metal razor should be no problem. The introduction of plastic (or glue in the case of brushes) would be problematic I would guess. Ask your media tech what they recommend for instrume...

Speaking as a photobiologist (no kidding), Lou is dead on. Shortwave UV-C (as you would find under a sterile laminar flow hood) will "nuke" whatever it comes into contact with, however as Lou mentioned, it has to be directly exposed. I don't think short term exposure would do any long last...

You can purchase the Weishi here http://www.cottonblossomcrafts.com/weishi_razor.htm Cotton Blossum Crafts. They were very easy to deal with, the order came quick and the razor was only $15 (on sale now). It includes some Dorco (Korean?) blades and they threw in a couple of Feathers. While you are t...

Holy cow, you just brought back some memories. I remember those things! Last time I saw one of those it was sitting in the back of my father's bathroom closet with a lot of dust on it.

It was really a combination of several different things. First, I have access to new DE razor blades in the place where I work. That was motivation to switch from the $14 per 4 pack M3 blades. Secondly, I had read about DE shaving on Fatwallet.com and read that MSNBC article and thought, hmmm....wel...

I received a Weishi razor from Cotton Blossum Crafts last weekend. For $15, I really don't see how this razor could be beat. I have absolutely nothing to compare it to, but so far I love it. Seems to be well built and I haven't had any nicks or cuts yet. I'll probably upgrade sometime to a Gillette ...

Many Targets carry a reasonable Proraso line these days. A puck of the soap is around four bucks, and I think a tube of cream (which I prefer) runs around 7 bucks-- both are cheaper than you can find them mail order. Not to pick hairs, but I do believe the 5oz tube is $5.99 at Target and the 2.5 oz...

What are THESE things????

While doing a google search for "Feather razor blades" I came across the following:

http://www.bonika.com/finraz.html

I can't even imagine trying to use them. Let alone have somebody using them on me loaded with Feather Razor Blades.

Wow, that sure is a beauty Richard.

I'm just starting out and dont' want to spend a bunch of money just yet. My next purchase will most likely be a better brush and/or a Gillette adjustable. (I've only had 4 shaves out of my Weishi and I already know I want a better razor!)

All interesting ideas...... tried With the Grain's idea this morning and it seemed to work just fine. I'm going to try the ceramic route next and see how that works out.

Heat Retention in a mug/bowl?

Just started shaving with a DE and I'm loving it. I'm putting very hot tap water into my stainless steel bowl and resting my brush in it while I shower. After I'm done, I dump the water, give the brush a good couple of shakes and put a dab of Proraso in the bowl to lather. I'm getting good lather, t...

You're dead-on there. I went the cheap route and ordered a Weishi (which some folks say is a good starter) with the intention of upgrading to a Merkur soon. Now I am anxiously awaiting the USPS to deliver my new razor, brush and soap. Ended up picking up a tube of Prorasso as well. Thanks! Chris

i did a search for Proraso on target.com, no luck.
If they have it in no-where Minnesota (where I'm at) then I'd bet it is near you too. You need to look in the "SPA" section where they have men's bath stuff, creams etc.....

Proraso Tube versus Tub (Target)

Ok, this is going to sound like a dumb question from a Newbie, but try doing a search for Proraso on this site and it is hard to find the answer. Anyway, here's the question: Besides the obvious, is there any difference between Proraso in the tub versus the tube? Any benefit to either? Target has th...
