Re: Does anybody miss the old days and getting a barber Shop Shave?

I enjoyed the barbershop experience when I was a child at Joes Barbershop. The older gents, Joes age, hung out there reading the papers and chewing the fat and looking out for the kid (that'd be me). When it was my turn in the chair they made sure to pull my head out of the outdoor magazine I was re...

Re: Does anybody miss the old days and getting a barber Shop Shave?

I've never had a barber shave either and I'm almost 70. (How did I ever get to be this OLD!??) Not only do I not miss that which I never had, I don't miss the barbershops at all. I can give myself a BBS with no razor burn and I cut my own hair. In the time it takes me to only drive to a barbershop I...

Re: Aftershave as hand sanitizer

Don't use mine as sanitizer, it's 22% and not nearly high enough alcohol content. That's partly why it doesn't sting. The CDC is stating 60% is required with no contact time stated. The information I have for Covid-19 is that it's a DNA strand surrounded by a fat coat to protect it. Porous surfaces ...

Re: Joke of the Day

:D There is truth in that GA Russell, as there is in much humor. There was a menu item at a fancy NYC restaurant decades ago called "musquash" or some such. They used the Indian name because not many people knew that it translated to muskrat. At least that's the story I heard many years ag...

Re: What's for supper?

Sure, mushrooms would work and also lend umami. Other things that can be added is a panade. This is not breadcrumbs but they can be used for the base of the panade. A panade is bread and milk turned into a paste, not chunky, but a literal paste. It helps retain moisture but also helps to prevent the...

Re: Joke of the Day

When I'm the designated driver, I always say a little prayer aloud," Dear GOD, please let me die in my sleep the way old granddad did, and not screaming and shouting like his passengers.".

Anyway, that joke made me think of that.

What a shame they can't be more specific with their warnings. You're right, people will get so that they won't listen.

Re: Longevity of ARKO Shave Stick

When I was using other manufacturers soaps I would shred and press fat based soaps into a container, adding a small amount of water aided in that. That included ARKO stick. Can't say I ever got an unusable mass at the bottom except for Williams. I would bloom that since it was pretty bad and require...

They didn't understand the word "chocolate"? It's pretty much the same in Spanish/Mexican. Sounds like something else was going on. The Mexican chocolate I've had told me to stick with Lindt or Girardelli (sp?). It's much different than what we're accustomed to and not in a good way. It wa...

There's one of those lines seen on this map below, but it's unmarked. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Height+of+Land/@44.8385335,-70.7203573,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x2b733640673500ee!8m2!3d44.8386609!4d-70.7105827 Zoom in a bit and "Appalachian Trail" appears. That makes sense. I knew ...

I'll be sure to buy some virtual KFC chicken scented bagged logs to throw on my virtual fire.

The real fire will be burning real wood that smells like wood when I open the door to the airtight stove.

I never had oyster dressing. No way my wife would ever eat it, but I'd absolutely be up for it.

FWIW, the low carb dinner was pronounced delicious by the wife (I thought so too). The experimenting over the past few months paid off. I have a long way to go to get to where I want to be though.

Re: The Turkey Thread

It's going to be an interesting Thanksgiving Day meal for us. I'm still in ketosis so there are major substitutions I'm going to need to make. Can't thicken the gravy with roux due to the flour. So I'm going to practice with pot roast gravy. My first try is going to be using xanthan gum. I tried the...

Yup, it's that time of year.

We pretty much only buy turkey at this time of year so the flavor makes the holiday time special for me.
