SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, AUGUST 13, 2020

Excellent shave today! VBBS above the jawline with a DFS below. My son presented me with a 1000 grit Chosera stone for bevel setting, which he assured me I probably wouldn’t need and a 320 grit diamond plate along with something called a jasper stone for finishing. He could probably open a sharpening supplies store given the jnats and coticules in his forge/workshop. My honing lessons begin when the two vintage straight razors arrive. It was inevitable! (Sigh!) He says I can use the jasper stone to touch up my current straights.

The Karve, a superb safety razor I should use more, made short work of the neck stubble, and sheared the dome stubble away with one good ATG pass followed by some selective buffing. I've found myself reaching for this Rooney brush every morning. It’s nowhere near the quality of their well-known Silvertip brushes, but it possesses a certain scritchy quality combined with a softness and backbone that just feels great on my shave surfaces. I’m really enjoying using it. This morning’s shave left me cool, clean and velveteen, just the way I like! I hope everyone has a great day!

RAZOR: Dovo Special (Mug), Karve E_OC Plate (Dome)
BLADE: Polsilver (2)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum.

Friday SOTN - Down to the crumbs of the PIF box.

prep - shower with Caprina Fresh Goats Milk Soap "Original" bar
razor - Fendrihan "Scientist" Full Stainless, with original Mk 1 head
blade - Shaverboy Stainless Steel (14)
soap - Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood cream (new to me)
brush - Simpson Special 1
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Italian Barber "GIT" splash
music - CHMA-FM 106.9 campus radio

BBS with one weeper, which I blame on the Fendrihan Mk 1 head, which is the most aggressive three-piece razor I have. No need ti use the styptic pencil on it. The alum was enough.

The T&F Sandalwood (from a 5 ml sample) performed well, and the scent was neither like Proraso Red (which I do like) nor like TOBS (or Fendrihan) Sandalwood (both of which I do not like, and smell the same to me). I'm inclined the say I like the T&F scent considerably more than dislike it.

I have no doubt that I can take the Shaverboy blade to 20 uses, at which point I run out of sides on the icosahedral D20 die and toss the blade.
Image
Looks like I just bought 4.47 years of Shaverboy blades.
Maybe I'll spoil myself and switch to a D12 counter. :-k

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, AUGUST 14, 2020

My shave today required the use of two safety razors to complete my head shave. I first used a pass around Slant razor by Tom White, the Torqued Razor, but did experience an issue on the back of my head. The neck cleanup was a breeze, but I couldn’t seem to shave close enough on the back of my head in the troughs and valleys. After nicking myself twice with the Torqued razor loaded with a Suneko blade, I finished the back with my Shake Sharp. Good shave, but tomorrow I’ll try the Torqued razor with a Feather blade. Despite these mishaps, I feel cool, clean and velveteen!

RAZOR: Feather SS ( Mug), Tom’s Torqued Razor and Shake Sharp 1.5 (Dome)
BLADE: Feather Super AC (Mug), Suneko DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with the Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Krampert’s Frostbite AS Splash.

August 14 - Gary Larson's birthday (b.1950)

It never gets old.
💈Friday SOTN - scraping the bottom of the PIF box.
razor - British Aristocrat Junior
blade - Shaverboy Stainless Steel (15)
soap - Truefitt & Hill "Trafalgar" (new to me)
brush - Semogue 620
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Clubman Vanilla
music - (silence)

A DFS with #15 on the Shaverboy blade.

The T&F Trafalger cream was 1/2 of a 5 ml sample. Just enough.
"The Trafalgar scent: Spicy, light, and captivating with top notes of Cedar and Sandalwood complemented by subtle hints of Jasmine and Spice."
I would've guessed Rosemary, or something that would go on Baked Salmon.
It was nice, but $30 for 190 g tub? Maybe not.

That Clubman Vanilla makes a nice "daily driver" AS.

Friday SOTN - Finally, the last new-to-me item from the PIF box.

prep - shower with Caprina Fresh Goats Milk Soap "Original" bar
razor - QShave Adjustable Futur clone
blade - Shaverboy Stainless Steel (16)
soap - Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes (new to me)
brush - Simpson Special 1
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Avon "Wild Country" Aftershave Conditioner (balm)
music - CHMA-FM 106.9 campus radio. Seemed to be mostly Spanish jazz ballads tonight.

A bloodless DFS tonight, because I resisted cranking the razor up past 3.5 for the third and final pass. I started it at 3 (out of 6) for the first 2 passes.

The T&F "West Indian Limes" (½ of a 5 ml sample) was as good as the other T&F creams, even though I accidentally left too much water on the brush. A bit frothy, but it still did the job.
It had a fairly strong Lime scent (just like it says on the box), but it was more of a candy flavour Lime. It did not irritate my skin the way most Lime-scented soaps do.

Now that I've finished trying out all of the new-to-me products from the PIF box, I shall have to revert to making decisions about what to shave with.

Waiddaminnit... I have three half-used sample packets of the Truefitt & Hill creams that should get used up first.
That works. \:D/

SOTD SUNDAY AUGUST 16, 2020

My shave today was identical to yesterday’s with two equipment changes. I swapped out the Feather Proguard AC for a Feather Super AC in the Kai Kamisori Clone. And secondly I changed the handle back to the original aluminum one. With the Feather Super loaded, I was able to achieve a bloodless face and neck VBBS with no need for safety razor cleanup. Tom’s Torqued razor (TTR) delivered the same level of shave to my head, albeit with two tiny nicks on the back of my dome. Proraso Styptic Gel easily took care of things leaving me feeling clean, velveteen and cool!

Nice! That bottle of Cuir de Russie makes me a bit envious. ;) The prices for it on Ebay has really gotten crazy.
