SOTD MONDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 21, 2020

After yesterday’s great shave with the Saito SK3 and Eclipse Red Ring, I decided on another Japanese straight razor shave. Instead of the Saito, I selected the NOS Diamond Hayashi 1000 6/8 and decided to stick with the Eclipse! Since I was in the mood for a lime shave, I chose my Castle Forbes Lime shave cream. The dome and mug shaves were excellent and left me feeling refreshed, clean, and velveteen smooth. The finish with the Royal Lyme AS was the icing on the cake!

RAZOR: Diamond Hayashi 1000 6/8 (Mug), Eclipse Red Ring (Dome)
BLADE: Feather DE (2)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Monster Tuxedo Synth
CREAM: Castle Forbes Lime
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin Soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Royal Lyme AS/Cologne.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 24, 2020

Well, it's Christmas Eve, and I’ve a host of last minute errands to run. Nate, my three year old grandson is spending the night with us. He’s looking forward to his Christmas morning shave with G-Pop. I've just got to make sure that I keep him quiet in the early morning so he doesn’t wake his grandma up. He shaves with Barbasol and his great-grandpop’s debladed Slim. His enthusiastic yips will have to be toned down somehow. I’m still working the problem.

I’ve never been much of a Gillette TTO fan, but this gold British Rocket is definitely growing on me. Maybe it’s the blade, but as a believer in the TSD mantra of “technique trumping tools” it's probably just part of my dialing in process. I've had this safety razor for almost two years, but have shaved with it less than half a dozen times. It sailed through the delightfully thick lime lather effortlessly. Its usage frequency will definitely change after today’s excellent two pass (ATG, ATG) noggin shave.

The Castle Forbes Lime shave cream performed admirably this morning. The Sapele/Resin handled Omega Pro48 Boar Knot easily generated the dilute, slick face lather I love for my mug shaves. The C-Mon Special 11/16 sang the buttering toast melody as it cleared away the facial stubble in three, slow, luxurious passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) with ease. I feel velveteen smooth, refreshed and quite upbeat. I’m off to pick up some Prosecco and the beef tenderloin my wife prepares every Christmas. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all my shave brothers and sisters out there!

RAZOR: C-Mon Special 11/16 (Mug), British Gillette Gold Rocket
BLADE: Wilkinson Sword DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Sapele/Resin Handled Omega Pro48 Boar
CREAM: Castle Forbes Lime Essential Oil
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Royall Lyme AS/Cologne.

SOTD CHRISTMAS MORNING, DECEMBER 25, 2020

Despite my best intentions, my grandson, Nate, slept on. Last night I touched up the Wade & Butcher 7/8 on the jasper stone. I do enjoy using this new-to-me straight razor. It feels good in hand, and the resulting three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG) mug shave was excellent! For the dome I selected my SS Supply V2 and loaded a Schick Twin blade. The two pass (ATG, ATG) noggin shave checked all the boxes. My bride, as usual every Christmas, will be scurrying around worried about Christmas dinner with our pod. We’re having only 7 this year thanks to the plague! In any case it’s time to go downstairs, wake my grandson, and prepare for a wonderful day! I feel smooth, clean, and velveteen! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

RAZOR: Wade & Butcher 7/8 (Mug), SS Supply V2 (Dome)
BLADE: Schick Twin
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub.

SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 26, 2020

This morning’s shave was much less pressured than yesterday’s. In the interest of variety, I rolled right back into my standard rotation and selected the reliable Puma 88 5/8 straight razor for the mug and the trusty Ronson safety razor for the dome. SWMBO left early this morning for a 60 mile bike ride. Since I’m still recovering from my broken ribs I was excused and freed up to use my Indian version of Old Spice AS which to my untrained nose smells virtually the same as my hoarded Shelton original version.

The MrEE Knurled Aluminum Handle hybrid knot #007 is and has been one of my favorites since it’s arrival in my den. It possesses just the right combination of backbone and softness to generate the two types of lather I enjoy for my shaves. The thinner, wetter face lather was just perfect for the Puma which sheared away my mug whiskers easily. I removed the twin blade from the Ronson and loaded the usual Schick Proline B-20 injector blade. The resulting yogurty, bowl-lathered dome shave with this wonderful, head-heavy little safety razor was exactly as expected. I feel clean, velveteen smooth, refreshed, and smell - yes 30DC unbelievers - good!

RAZOR: Puma 88 5/8 (Mug), Ronson Safety Razor (Dome)
BLADE: Schick Proline B-20 Injector
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot #007
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm and Old Spice Original (Indian Version).
