TI Eagle 6/8 Tuesday, Cyril Salter Wild Rose cream, a custom Shavemac brush, Floris No.89:

The custom Shavemac was an attempt to take the elegance of the 22368 (see my SOTD for 15th August) and marry it with a bigger knot. This was my second attempt, and the first was even larger. It's in the middle of these three brushes. Sadly, they ended up looking like middle-aged dumpy figures rather than bigger and better 22368s; they needed more height. The massive brush is a similarly shaped Vulfix shop window display brush.

Long handles definitely aid in whipping up masses of lather from soap in the bottom of a larger bowl, though!

Moving on through the big cardboard box of rarely used brushes, I've come to the Shavemac D01 brushes. Today I used the Sunday TI Eagle, homemade soap, prototype fan D01, and Penhaligon's Opus 1870:

Image

I have two fan-shaped prototypes, one slightly larger than the other, and the large one has brown shafts mixed in with the black - looks just like old Somerset Simpson Best Badger. And it functions just like it; massive lather, soft but firm on the face, definitely deserves to be used. The other three are typical black and white 2-bands. I bought the two bulb shaped brushes once they were on the market to repay Bernd for his kindness in consulting me.

The prototypes are unmarked, but Bernd put my initials on the base of all of them:

Sunday night:

Razor: Henson DE (machined, anodized aluminum)
Blade: Treet Dura Sharp

Brush: Semogue 1305
Soap: Mystic Water Lime

Lather made on top of the soap
Three passes

Aftershave: Cold water rinse and Thayer's Peach Witch Hazel

This is my second shave with the Henson razor. The first time, I used it with one of the supplied Astra blades and found it harsh, even though the razor was designated mild by the manufacturer. I tried it tonight with a Treet Dura Sharp blade, perhaps my favorite of favorites among current and recent production. This shave went a lot better and the razor felt milder than last time. This surprises me, because I have no problem with most blades. The geometry of the Henson is unique among razors I have experienced, so I'll give it some more time.
