Dr. Chris, as this week of all weeks begins for you and yours, we stand together as one and say to you - Fair winds and following seas, brother!

Post as often as you are able; and be blessed!

Thanks, chaps - just hoping nothing goes wrong this time and the third try will be the charm.

Day 13, counts almost bottomed out, no serious infection, but very hard to swallow from the raw throat of neutropenia. But my hair is coming out in handfuls. Agreed to let the nurse shave my head tomorrow. It will grow back, but of course this means shaving becomes something I can do with a blunt straight or a bladeless DE for a few weeks or months! Bugger!

Thanks for checking in, Chris.

Sounds pretty rough. I'll echo Sam's sentiments, hoping for a good outcome as soon as possible.

Chris, glad to hear your making positive progress. I remember losing the hair on my head from chemo; my step-son said I looked intimidating with no hair :D it soon grew back, but was much finer and softer than before. Several months later I had radiation treatments on the right side of my chest, which defoliated the area where it was done. To this day the hair hasn’t grown back and makes my chest look rather weird. When I go swimming now I always wear a T-shirt.

Some good news—my platelet count is already higher than it has been since original chemo six years ago! This means that once I get home, I can take up a razor without delay. Probable discharge to the Lodge tomorrow, and then a couple of weeks as an outpatient.
