Dutchies!

Post by drmoss_ca »

Canadians of a certain age will remember the happy days when Tim Horton stores made their own dough for their doughnuts, before the frozen factory-made abomination that makes their doughnuts so heavy that they now can double as armour piercing projectiles. In those days, the best doughnut they sold was the Dutchie, packed with raisins and glazed with sugar syrup. They were also square, but I only had a round cutter. When I saw my mate in Sunderland had put his doughnut recipe up on YT, I decided to modify it and make Dutchies. Here we go:

The recipe is here:

You're on a tear! These look mouthwatering. I think I gained five pounds just reading this thread.

Thanks for posting this and the other. I've got to try them one day.

These look like the wonderful risen doughnuts that were the norm when I was a child. It seems that cake doughnuts have largely taken over, and I don't like them nearly as much.

It's an eye-opener at just how much better fresh doughnuts (and fresh croissants, hell, fresh homemade anything) are when compared to mass-market store bought stuff. Not that it makes them any healthier or less fattening!

How I miss Tim’s Dutchies and a large steeped tea. What a regressive move to discontinue the Dutchie. To me it was the hallmark of Tim’s.

I made these today and they were really surprisingly easy to make. I was going for a Krispy Kreme type doughnut so I fried them in lard and coated them with a glaze. They taste terrific!

Thanks again for sharing this, I'll probably do this more often as daughter #2 loves doughnuts and I'd rather make her some homemade than buy them.

As an aside, since everything was out, I made homemade baguette for dinner as well. It was convenient that way.

It was for son #1 as today is his seventh birthday and he asked for a French meal. The baguette just complimented it that much better.

Now I see you are a vendor. SMF has a separate forum for posting about your products - Shopping.

If you disparage other vendors and their products you might ruffle some feathers.

Too funny sir!!!

We have Gibsons and Alton Brown has called them the best doughnuts he has ever eaten. Maple bacon doughnuts get served at our church for Father's Day, but the men let the ladies and children have them anyway. But these look so good, and with a cream cheese icing drizzle, oh my word
