Who Makes this Razor?

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

Who Makes this Razor?

Post by scruffy »

Does anyone know the manufacturer of this razor that the Vermont Country Store is selling? The box says Vrest? I have never heard of them.

Hi Ed -

The razor and the cleaning brush look very Weishi to me.

Looks to me like a far east razor. Also, I doubt if it’s stainless steel. Too inexpensive to be stainless.
Best regards,

I concur. It closely resembles a razor that Walmart has on the shelves for about ten bucks. I would expect that it gives good shaves, depending on which blade is used, regardless of the origins and materials. :D

Ditto. It appears to be an exact duplicate of a Weishi that I own.

BTW, The Vermont Country Store was first opened in 1946 in Weston, Vermont, by Vrest and Mildred Ellen Orton, although the origins of Orton family Vermont storekeeping go back to the late 19th century.

By odd coincidence, I just saw something very similar on eBay that also claimed to be stainless - a Nautica TTO, from the same company that makes shirts, etc.

My guess is that it's Chinese and made from chrome plated pot metal, possibly the same razor I got at Dollar Tree.

Thanks for the replies. I did suspect that it was not worth the money that they were charging for it. I was thinking China or Pakistan origen.

Ed, the Weishi is a very good example of a very mild razor (similar shave experience to a Gillette Tech).

I'm sure you can find them other places, under the Weishi name, for less than at the Vermont Country Store.

You can get it online from Dollar Tree, but the minimum order is 36:

You could ask at a store if they can order it, or they might happen to have it on the shelf.

At $1.00 for a DE razor with blades, a retailer could make a fast $9.00 profit. Not bad!
