I have AOS Lavender and they cost about the same. I dunno, I like the light scent of the stick and the simplicity of it. Valobra itself just seems "purer" to me in some strange way, very simple, no razzmatazz AOS BS. No fancy stores in expensive parts of London, etc. I find myself shunning products from companies that spew BS and bad products onto the public and pretend their products are made in their celebrated establishments.

Just look at the picture. Very simple setup, fantastic results.

Tim, As I've posted during your absence, I think that the Heritage Series Rooneys, and especially the Emillion, are rather unique. They are unusually densely packed, and the bristle is a lilttle different then any other I've seen from any company. I prefer it to the Finest model I have, actually. If you're interested, I did a 'review' of the brush not that long ago. It should be easy enough to find.
Regards,
Gordon

Gordon,

Thank you for the information. As always you are very helpful and insightful.

I will do my usual archive digging to find 'said' review...(I should have assumed you already had one and just searched for it... )

Blackjack #21

Post by Occam »

Saturday:

Gillette Aristocrat #21
Gillette Swede Platinum (new)
Vulfix #2190
Proraso

Result: A+

I imagine there aren't many days like this in a man's life when they get to a whole new level. It's only after 36 years of my life and 20 years of shaving that I can finally say I've had a total A+ shave and more remarkably, it was effortless.

Ben, it's been said before, but that's a fine looking razor. The clean top, without a visible center bar, is hot. (I hope it's forgivable to refer to another man's razor as a hottie.)

Glenn, not only is it forgivable it's expected here. I have a razor with (as far as I can tell) the same head with a sort of '40's SS handle that I will be using when I change blades. As for Friday's shave:

'58 TV/NOS Wilkinson
SMF III
Trumper's Limes
Thayer's Peach
GFT Coral SF
Geo. F. Trumper Eucris

Saturday, Jan 12, 0530 CST
Prep: hot shower, hair conditioner, hot towel
Brush: Shavemac silvertip
Soap/Cream: T&H Trafalgar
Razor+Blade: Futur + Israeli #4 (passes 1-3), 1956 SS + Dorco #2 (pass 4)
Passes: 4: wtg min presure, xtg min pressure, atg slight pressure, atg min pressure
Post: Alum block, Curve A/S, Neutrogena post shave lotion

Result: A. One patch of minor irritation (right side neck) and one weeper (upper lip), but BBS and feels great!

First time using 4 passes and I like the result. Used slightly too much pressure on the 3rd pass (ATG), which caused the damage. I might try 5 zero pressure passes tomorrow just for the heck of it.

I fell asleep at 8PM with my kids for some reason, so woke up wide-eyed at 3AM. As the only one awake in the house with 3 or 4 hours to kill this morning, took my sweet time shaving and had a ball. My wife probably thinks I'm crazy, going to bed at 8:00 on Friday night. [-( Oh well!

Richard,

Well, that makes perfect sense to me. I find myself reluctant to give AOS my hard earned cash - and there is beauty in simplicity.

Every time I go into an AOS store I leave a little angry :x . I still would like to try AOS shave soap though

Congrats, Ben, seems as if you've reached that milestone we all seek. The first time I could say the same was with an almost identical setup, too, replacing that #21 with a #66.

OKay, Sal...enough copying and pasting your SOTD info..."Mr. Fidelity"... :P

Since your info never changes anyway...why not add photos or commentary about each particular shave...?
