Best Inexpensive Bowl?

Post by Boyextraordinare »

I fill my sink and bowl with hot water, leaving the brush in too, and let it settle while I prep. - as Mantic demonstrates in his videos.

What type of inexpensive cereal bowl retains heat the best?

I was using a white ceramic one before, but elected to switch it out for a plastic one that looked prettier and, dark, allowed me to see my white lather more clearly.

But I'm feeling the ceramic did a better job with heat retention? Haven't done a side by side test, but that's what I'm thinking...

So, my question: What's the best material'd cereal bowl to get at a low, Walgreens/Target price?

Also what are the best dimensions, roughly?

This bowl, to the eye, looked close enough to the ceramic bowl I used to use, but now looking at it can tell it's slightly shallower and wider, which makes lathering in it more cumbersome.

A cappuccino mug works very well - wide enough to prevent clanging the brush handle off the sides. You should be able to pick up a plain coloured one for $2 to $3.

I second rick's suggestion. I have a large latte mug I got at KMart for $1.99 that I use daily. Works great with my C&E BBB.

Heat retention is best with heavy thick walls, and the smallest inside diameter. Worst heat retention is if the container is too big, and is light and thin.

The other day at the grocery store I came across some bowls that were called "ice cream bowls". They are stainless on the inside with enameling on the exterior. They are double walled and about 4.5 to 5 inches in diameter. They work great for lathering and they are unbreakable!.

I use a ~$3 soup cup from Wal-Mart. It has thick ceramic walls and a nice handle. It is big enough to get plenty of lather, but not huge. It is also fairly shallow, which allows it to stay warm in a sink of hot water better.

Target usually has quite an assortment of suitable bowls. I found a inexpensive rice bowl there to be just about perfect and used it for quite a while until I got a scuttle.

my good friend JimR sent me a shaving bowl from japan the bowl has 2 chambers one above the other, you soak hot water in the lower one while the higher one is suspended in the hot water, you whip up the lather in the top bowl which is heated by the hot water in the lower bowl, it works really well, and the lather does feel much warmer when you apply to your face
