I have a Tech which is brass coloured with a relatively short handle. I like this razor a lot. The question is, and the answer may seem obvious to some, are the heads on the different techs all the same?
I want to buy another tech (I believe one is called "ball end") but don't want a different head. Any guidance would be most welcome.

When you say "short handle" are you referring to the travel sized Tech with the handle that is around 1 1/2" long or the "regular" sized gold handle?
Those two heads are the same I believe.
Wendell's info mirrors what I have observed with the Techs (14) I have.

Bar Guard Plate Differences
A bar guard plate with 4 triangular holes is more aggressive than the later oval holes. The fat handled Techs usually come with the more aggressive triangular holed bar guard. The blade gap for the triangular plate is .024" and .021" for the oval. I prefer the oval plate, but the fat handle is nicer.

Thanks for the replies. The handle on my gold coloured tech is 3" long and the bottom blade plate has four elongated oval holes in it, two on each side. I presume that means that my tech is one of the "milder" ones.
I think that I will post in the buy/sell forum for a ball end and see what turns up. Thanks again.

I have my late father's old Tech, and it has the triangular openings. It was the only razor I ever knew him to own. Unfortunately, I recall many days when he had little bits of tissue due to the cuts. I recently tried to use it several times, only to experience the same untamable aggression, and have since permanently retired it. Until I became aware of the difference in the heads, I had assumed it to be somehow defective.
