honing services
Hello I'm new to straight razors but not to wet shaving as I've been shaving with a DE for a few years now. I picked up 2 very nice stairs off of eBay but they are very dull and vintage. I do not have a strop yet, and to but everything I need right now will set me back to much. Is there anybody that can get them shave ready so o can begin my straight razor journey?

There are people who will do it for a fee; or you may find some straight shaving enthusiast who might do it for free (you may need to take care of the postage though).bachmanrob wrote:Hello I'm new to straight razors but not to wet shaving as I've been shaving with a DE for a few years now. For someone to step forward we would need to kow first where you live, as it is not really practical to send a razor for honing abroad, or even long distance in your own country.
Posting a picture would also help, since you are by your own admittance new to this and some razors are beyond salvation, something that may not always be visible to an untrained eye.
Expect to learn your lessons (= make mistakes) in the beginning and trying to learn to shave with a straight razor without a suitable strop is like learning to brush your teeth without a toothbrush: whether you like it or not, you need one.

Re: honing services
It needs more than a typical honing service provides. Especially a free service. I would start out with sandpaper. Charlie Lewis has a YouTube on sanding using a wine cork and various grits. You can get it to a mirror finish with the super fine automotive grits. Then you can send it out. The chip will take some work at 1k and I would use tape to do it. Then untape reset the bevel Progress to finish and Bob's ur uncle. I would be happy to do it although I am in California.bachmanrob wrote:I live in Maryland ands here are some pictures.
