Hello,
This may be a silly question, but will rubbing alcohol cause any adverse effects to the finish on a rhodium plated vintage Gillette?
Thanks

Re: Alcohol and Rhodium British Aristocrat
I've no experience of that combination, but chemically there should be no issues. I'd go so far as to say the mechanical scrubbing would be more of a threat than the alcohol. Metals do not dissolve in alcohols.

This is from a talk.jewelry forum:
Question:
.
I have a British Aristocrat Junior that looks unusually shiny for its age. How likely is it that it's rhodium plated too?

I can answer my own question, after reading an article on AJs:
Question:
Answer 1I know a lot of you use alcohol often to clean your rings.
I use it too, a quick soak or wipe when I do not have time for a clean in my ultrasonic.
My question is will if effect Rhodium Plating over time? Most of my jewelry is white gold with Rhodium plating.
Has anyone had any issues with this, do you think it will cause the rhodium to wear off faster? Or will it not effect it it at all?
Answer 2The alcohol itself won't affect it, but the rubbing action of te cloth on the metal will over time. Make sure to use the soft jewelry clothes.
Sounds like it would be pretty safe.I have soaked rhodium dipped white gold pieces in rubbing alcohol for years and never had it chip off or anything.

It's still a great little razor. I prefer it over flare-tip Rockets and Super-Speeds.Because these British razors are so well polished and plated, they are often mistakenly thought of as being rhodium plated. They aren't, unfortunately. Just well plated nickel.

What about the non-flared Rocket? I'm asking because I happen to have one, and think highly of it. I've never tried or even seen a flare-tip Rocket, except in photos. It's still a great little razor. I prefer it over flare-tip Rockets and Super-Speeds.
Re: Alcohol and Rhodium British Aristocrat
I dunno. I have never tried one.

Re: Alcohol and Rhodium British Aristocrat
Alcohol is less likely to damage plating than is water. Soft lint-free cloth and iso propanol is fine.
