Is the Norelco electric razor considered a safety razor?

Don't really know (or even care)! Today I stumbled upon my late dad's Norelco. His shaving days came to an unintentional and abrupt end in 1975.
He probably wasn't using it very often before that because he was loyal to the soap in a can and the Gillette razor and blade. It's been in the case, in like-new condition and very seldom (if ever) opened for about 48 years in my mom's garage. Since I've decided to consider going all electric "if" or when I hit 80, I'll have 2 Norelcos to choose from - his and mine, dating back to about the same decade he got his. Yes, I turned it on and it seems to run just fine.

I'd call it cheating! My times with a Phillips/Norelco shaver when my platelets have been low have not been pleasant. I'd rather grow a beard than have to use that.

Honestly, when the time comes and I use it a couple of times, I'll probably agree with you! Oh well, it's going to be a while before all of my creams and soaps have disappeared anyway.

I recall watching it as a kid, it's a fond memory.

I don't think those things ever die. So I guess if you gotta use one why not use the ones you have?

I'm with Dr. Moss though. My mother gave me an electric when I was 12. I was never satisfied with the shave and always looked like I needed a shave a couple hours after using one.

If I had to give up a straight I've got my Dad's old DE. If I can't use a blade for some reason, well, I've still got that old electric mom gave me and it still works.

Gary, there is nothing significant about hitting 80. I’m 84 and continue to greatly enjoy my wet shaves. Transitioning to an electric never even crosses my mind.

Norelcos/Philips never worked for me. I actually got my skin caught between the floating heads, causing a major bleed. They just don't cut well for me, either. YMMV, as others like them. Good quality foil-type razors are the electrics that always worked best for me.

Both avoid the injuries associated with the operation of the original equipment.
