Is a DE in my carry-on safe?

Post by gschneider »

New to the scene, but I'm going out of town and want to travel with my Merkur DE in a carry-on. The "official statement" is a bit confusing:

"Razor-type blades such as box cutters, utility knives, and razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors are not permissible for carry-on."

Does the exclusion apply to my Merkur?

Anyone successfully flown post 9-11 w/ their razor?
Thanks
Greg

Hello Greg,

The DE blades will not make it through. The empty razor will, but you might be delayed if they spot it and want to take a look at it. Best to put it, open or apart, in a plastic ziploc laid right on top of your clothes for easy inspection.

"Safety razors" only apply to razors like M3s and the like with sealed blades.

I travel with Bic Metals. One for each day. Almost like a DE, carry-on legal, very good shaves.

Some people send a blade in the mail to their hotel ahead of time and then leave it in the hotel room. Or you buy blades at your destination; probably won't be Merkurs or Feathers though.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Thanks! Guess I'll hope to find some some Gillette blades in Flagstaff.

Stay away from the Gillette blades!

They're worse quality today then the generic store brands.

Just about every big supermaket I've been in has had DE and Injector blades BTW. Target has stopped carrying DE blades though.
