Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

Update

Post by 139sroberts »

Following on from my first thread: http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31684 all my kit arrived by Monday and since, i have had two shaves. I have everything placed just so in the bathroom, i suppose i should take a picture and post it. My girlfriend is now making fun that i am taking up more space then she is!

Anyway, i am pleased to report that both shaves went very well and am very happy with my initial results, which i largely put down to the advise i have read here :D I have taken it real slow though, to ensure i am doing it properly and not to cut myself, I’m sure i will quicken up over time once i get more confident and experienced.

The only issue i have is my Edwin Jagger Chrome Shaving Bowl, for lathering. It is just too small. I guess it is targeted at soap users and I’m using cream.

Through reading all the topics posted here I have come across the “Moss Scuttle”. I now really want one of these =P~ particularly as im not a quick shaver and would appreciate the warm lather, but it needs to be big enough for lathering with cream. Doing further research I have found scarce few pottery sources that specialise, one of which being sarabonnymanpottery, but NONE local (I live in the UK) :( . Sara tells me shipping from sarabonnymanpottery (Canada) is $47, nearly as much as the scuttles themselves!

Does anybody know of any UK based Vendors? Or am I limited to buying myself a nice cheap large shaving mug from ebay and being done with it or paying out extra for oversea's postage? Indecently, I have just tried a quick Google for ‘custom uk pottery’ but this returned no relevant results :(

Steve

I too am in the UK, I got a big cappuccino mug from asda for about £1. Whittard and Tesco do them too.

It's a fantastic big bowl for lathering up - I immerse it in the washbasin 1/4 full with hot water.

cheers

The Jagger bowl may be meant as a soap holder.

You can make the lather directly on your face, or if you do want a bowl, any smallish bowl or largish mug will do fine. (Don't use anything that has sharp edges inside. A pebbled or swirled finish is all right - just never something that is scratchy inside to wear away at your brush.)

Thanks to a tip I got from DavidB a couple of years ago I use a small stainless steel pet feeding bowl that I float in my basin of hot water, it works like a charm.

I put a smaller bowl in a cappucchino cup to get a "sort of" moss scuttle.
