Creams - swirl in pot?

Is it better to remove cream from a pot and place in a bowl or to swirl the brush in the pot prior to lathering?

Does swirling in the pot have a negative effect on the cream remaining.

For most creams, it doesn't really matter- folks do it both ways with good results. The only exception that really comes to mind is Castle Forbes, where the cream is so firm that swirling is needed to get a good lather.

for me it's very easy to use too much product with a cream. i now measure the cream with a 1/2 teaspoon amount which is plenty. once i dipped the brush into the cream thinking i had a small amout then emptied it into a measureing spoon and it ended up double what i normally need.

To answer you questions -- yes, and yes.

In other words, ymmv -- some swirl, some dip and plop --- it's about what work's best for you.

I use a small spoon which allows me to extract exactly the amount I need.

I started out as a spoon guy, now im a swirler, I enjoy the extra time I get building the lather on my face. Next year who knows, I may be a soap guy ;-)

I usually use a small bowl to swirl lots of lather. But this is for cream soaps, not hard soaps.

Using roughly 1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon tapped out into a warmed shaving mug,
what's left on the spoon gets dabbed onto brush. Voila.

I don't use creams often and when I do KMF is the most used, so I'm more of a pumper.

For creams in a tube, I squeeze out a bead onto the brush, swirl it around the scuttle to distribute it in the brush and warm it, wet face and face lather away. I do this for creams from a tub, too, after loading brush. I Forgot to mention this in previous post.

yup.

soap worked up in the bowl it arrived in.

creams measured out into a separate container for lathering.

i'd use up the cream in about 1/3 the time if i swirled right from the source.

I found I use less cream by swirling. Loading the tip of the brush used less cream than my dollop out of the tub. I also got a more consistent starting dose of cream. Whatever works.

I love the way a thread like this throws up ideas to try out!

Thanks everyone.

I started out by sticking the brush down into the tub, then later decided it was going to work better for me to take a little butter or cheese knife and remove an almond-sized portion of the cream to put into the bowl.
