Oficially an old guy

Feel free to post anything unrelated to wet shaving or men's grooming (I.e. cars, watches, pens, leather goods. You know, the finer things of life).

Congrats! That doesn't automatically make you an old guy. Under the right (or wrong) circumstances, you could be a grandfather and still be in your 30s, which is a lot younger than I am, and I don't have any grandchildren yet. Besides, they keep you young, right?

Congratulations! Don't forget this means you have become, officially, free babysitters rather than just grandparents!

Congratulations Steve -- welcome to the Grand-dad club!

Have you put a freeze on all your bank accounts? Grandchildren cost way more than children ... at least that's been my experience. And I am every bit as bad as Grandma is.

Congrats, Steve and Danny. It's a great experience, enjoy it.

Chris mentions being a free babysitter. Tell your kids you don't need their money (if that is the case), but that the babysitting isn't free. Make them agree to put money into the child's college fund when grandparents babysit -- and then periodically ask to see the fund statement. This may sound cold or cruel, but it's not. It enforces a savings discipline, the money has years to grow before the child reaches college, and Mom and Dad will thank you some day. It is IMO a very loving thing to do.

Best wishes all around.

In our case, we enjoy their company so very much (they're current number is 5, ranging in age from 4 to 11) that we'd be willing to pay any price (in terms of some temporary inconvenience or the occasional change of plans) for an opportunity to be around and among them at any time. Fortunately, they're all living within a couple of miles, and we do get to have them visit us with or without their parents as often as reasonably possible. Of course we have lots more fun without the parents!

Congratulations on your important milestone. If this makes you an old guy, what do my six grandchildren make me? I shudder to think.
