I just tried a bit of an old bottle of Canoe. OMG is this stuff terribly, sickeningly sweet, even though I diluted it first and only used a tiny amount. What was I thinking when I used to wear this stuff years ago? It's very much an unrelenting assault of geraniol and tonquin, like a psychedelic version of Pinaud Clubman.
I tried Jade East a few days ago and that smelled OK in comparison, even though it's a similar style, it isn't sickeningly sweet.
I think Brut is still my #1 fougere fragrance, and Clubman is #2. I'm going to try a Hai Karate knockoff I ordered off the internet soon . But for now I think I'm giving up on Canoe.

Canoe has undergone some changes over the years. Your vintage stuff may also be degraded so take that into account.
I used it about five years ago and liked it a lot. In the formulation I tried it' very close to Pinaud Clubman though it is sweeter so it may not be for you.
It has changed hands since then from what I remember and who knows what it smells like today.
