1st year for Adjustable production?

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

1st year for Adjustable production?

Post by Gatorade »

I am thinking that 1959 was the first year they made the HD with the slim coming along in 1963? 1969 the black handles came into production. Those went to the 70's. When did they phase out the HD and the Slim?

I think the adjustable started in 1958, not 1959. I have a 1958 adjustable Toggle (but I haven't seen a 1958 HD).

My understanding is that the slim handle replaced the fat boy, so that would imply that the production of the fat boy ended in 1963? I also suspect that the black-handled adjustables replaced the slim...

I do have a 1958 Fatboy (which I do use on occasion). Quality thru and through!

Thanks,

No I believed you! I just wanted to know the production quarter. The 4 confirmed to me that the 58's were probably late in 58 and therfore scarcer.

You should smile! You are getting rarer by the moment!

Actually, I bot it off of ebay some time ago. I didn't know at the time what year it was, and the seller wasn't quite sure either. Oh well, sometimes these little treasures do turn up! :D :D :D

Thanks,

The fat-boy was test-marketed as early as 1956 with the employees of Gillette, it saw regional introduction in 1958 & went national 1959.

gillette adjustable production years

Post by retro »

When did Gillette stop the production of the black handle adjustable model(s)? (1971-72 with the introduction of TracII? later on?)
Also, there are several black handle adjustables, some have a plastic head (just above the dial), when were those produced? (1970-1980's?)

So:
Fat Boy adjustable 1957 or 1958 -> 1963
(toggle adjustable only 1960 I think)
then Slim adjustable 1963->1968
then black metalic adjustable 1968->1970
and finally black plastic adjustable 1970->1972?
Is this correct??

What about the blade production years?
Blue, Super Blue (1st stainless steel blade?), Stainless Steel ('Spoiler'), and Platinum coated?
