I'm a big fan of Merkur. I bought their HD Classic and loved it. When the 38C was introduced, I got right in line. Great shaves and I love the heft. If you bought a 38C when they were first introduced, how has the finish held up? Mine is showing a lot of wear on the top.

Double fan of your post. J B Books was a cool dude and pretty good about getting life in order, a big fan of that era and lifestyle.
Also a Merkur user and really like the 38C, not really old enough to comment on wear-ability, only a couple of months old, don't know how long they have been out. No problems. Have put a open comb (25C) top on the handle and handle is Zebrawood (Bob Quinn of Elite Razor) and its a pretty sharp rig.
