Voskhod Blades, a Review
Voskhod Blades, a Review
Made in Russia but the address is Moscow rather than St. Petersburg, perhaps someone who can translate the label can provide us with better information on the place of manufacture.
Appearance: These blades present in a brightly colored cardboard box announcing they are Teflon coated, along with a bunch of info that I cannot decipher.
Description: The blades are double wrapped, lightly glued, and present with a clean appearance without numbers.
The blade has a long single grind from the table with a short final hone that is difficult to capture in a photo. I tried different lighting, even covering the off lens eye, and the best I can say is the overall appearance of the edge is it appears quickly done without the clear lines of demarcation between grind and hone often seen with other brands.
Use: These blades were used in five test razors, Gillettes Knack and Super Adjustable, Schick Krona, Jagger Chatsworth and Futur. Performance was good across the board but noticeably better in the adjustable razors.
Conclusion: These blades work well and are capable of very close shaves but you have to work them a bit as they are not the sharpest made. A slight roughness at first as they settle down and returning as they reach the end of their useful life. A choice perhaps for those shavers who do not want a super sharp blade or like to pair a medium blade with a more aggressive razor.
Rating: 6.35

You will soon GA, that letter I promised you was delayed because I keep tossing more stuff in.
The old Derbys I have are good blades but there have been a number of comments in the last few years about changes or inconsistencies so I don't know about the current Derbys. I will say that any blade I rate 6.35 is one I would certainly use again.

Fine review, Squire. The packaging has the same information in English as in Russian.Squire wrote:Made in Russia but the address is Moscow rather than St. Petersburg, perhaps someone who can translate the label can provide us with better information on the place of manufacture.

teflon
great review! I think many of the "coated" blades need an initial shave to open up the full potential of the razors edge.I also feel the ladas are a wee bit smoother, but I manage to get 4-5 great shaves with the vokshod..

+1. In my records I'm pretty sure I recorded at least one that I easily perceived as being better on the 2nd shave than the first.malocchio wrote:great review! Thanks again Squire. I find your reviews a great help in my shaving progression. Keep up the good work!

That's right, I want the works...shave, haircut, witch hazel,
O.D. cologne, toilet water...If it smells I want it!"
