Feather blades - first shave -- WOW

Post by rahul325 »

First of all i wanna thank Tonyespo for sending me Feather blades try out.

THANKS A LOT TONY

Last nite i tried them out, i was a bit nervous after reading all the horror stories of how sharp they are, and leave ppl with bloodied face !!!! it was almost like the v first time i shaved with a DE.

I proceeded with caution, the first pass from my side burn down, it was so freakin' smooth and sharp. it took out more stubble than i cud take out with israeli's, derbys or wally world personnas.

these blades are so sharp !!!! after a complete first pass, no cuts !! wooohooo :) painted my face for the second pass, i go only SW-NE and NW-SE on my cheeks and E-W, W-E on my neck. Did this and 2 small cuts, one on my chin and one below the jaw line.

my face was a bit raw(felt the burn) for an hour or so. i guess i need to really lay off the pressure. in the nervousness i must have applied some pressure.

Now all i gotta do is to find a source for feather blades, coz this is the only thing i wanna shave with !!!!

any1 know any good deals on buying feathers in bulk ???

thnx for taking the time to read my looooooooooooooong post :)

later,
-R.

Try them for a few days before you splurge. Remember the adage "you can get away with anything once"...

I suppose this is probably true of any blade (but I use Feathers so...): Don't be afraid to junk a blade that doesn't seem right. It sometimes happens. I use F's all the time and about a week ago I got one that just seemed rough and left me cut up in a couple of places. Once I switched it out for a new one, they went back to their usual sharp but controllable self.

I think it just happens sometimes.

Feathers have taken my fixed head Merkurs to a new level. My 1904 replica is now an awesome shaver. I expect my HD will be as well. Something to be said for Japanese steel!!!

You can get them super cheap at cotton blossom crafts. They also sell Taylor Creams and tons of other stuff that you need. They have always given me a+ customer service.

The feather blade is for some serious shaving.

I like the potential shave I can get with them. The problem for me was that I couldn't get them to shave nice every time. It would look and feel like a perfectly smooth, comfortable shave. Then the next day, I would get an ingrown or razorbump or two that would pop up. It was a frustrating inconsistency, let me tell you. Nice blades, definitely give a good shave, but definitely give them a few days before you stock up. If I had bought a bunch right after my first shave, I would've thought I was doing something smart. Then I would've ended up being sorely dissappointed.

To add a slightly dissenting voice:

I've only ever tried a single pack of 10 of these blades they probably are the sharpest blades I've tried.

Honestly though, I didn't see any reason to rave about them. The shave generally seems a bit easier but not really any closer.

If you have to have them though why not? Even at the highest prices they are hardly a major expense.

If I could pop into my local chemist and buy a pack I probably would.

Welcome to the wqorld of Feathers. I too stayed away for a long time due to the reading of numerous horror stories. All I can say is I should have tried them earlier and made up my own mind.

Just be careful, lighten up - no pressure, let the weight of the razor do the work. And YES, our own Pauldog IS the man...or the featherman ?!?

I just tried my first the other day as well. Yes they are very sharp. Maybe a little too sharp? I got a super smooth shave if not my smoothest ever however under my jaw I got some small nicks and it felt a little too close. I could see getting some of these and using them on special occasion and keeping the Derbys and IPs arround for daily usage. Of course after I go about 5-6 shaves with this one and I go back to reality I may have a different tune. First shave after feathers and I may not want to go back. Only time will tell. 2 shaves down. Using soap and cream.

For my skin Feathers hit their sweet spot about three to four days in, after which I can have three or four superlative shaves with no irritation even when I get sloppy.

Will, Well, FWIW, I agree. Feathers are undeniably very sharp, but so are a couple of other blades I use. Personally, I don't get a closer or more long lasting shave with Feathers then with them. You hit on a significent point though. You can pop into local shops and pick up Swedes, or UK Wilkinsons, or Tescos. Here in the US, we don't have those superior choices lying around. The best blades all have to be mail ordered. Personally, all the DE blades I use, these days, come from Britain.

Gordon
