Friday:
Kent BK4
Wool Fat
Merkur HD
Derby blade (#3)
C&E Sienna ASB
For reasons unknown to me, this has been a very sporadic shaving week. I think it's because the boys have actually been sleeping until respectable hours of the morning, which means that I am sleeping in, which means that I am not shaving in the morning as regularly as I had been.

Thursday, Jan 31, 2008, 1800 CST (2nd shave)
Prep: hot shower, conditioner, Proraso crema pre barba
Brush: none
Soap/Cream: some brushless cream
Razor+Blade: Futur + Dorco #1
Passes: 2: wtg setting 3, atg setting 2
Post: Alum block, Nivea for men AS balm
Result: F. I rated Thursday morning shave A- but I should have given it lower marks. My face was irritated all day and the rare 2nd shave (due to dinner engagement) was painful and irritated my face even more. Highly regrettable.

Prep: hot shower, conditioner, Proraso crema pre barba
Brush: Shavemac silvertip
Soap/Cream: T&H Trafalgar
Razor+Blade: 1956 SS + Dorco #2
Passes: 3: wtg, xtg, atg
Post: Alum block, excess sc massaged into face, Nivea for men extra sensitive AS balm
Result: C. Face still irritated and miserable but this shave didn't make it too much worse. I will skip my shave tomorrow, at least. Poor face needs a break!
I do love T&H Trafalgar. Lots of gripes about reformulations of English creams on the BBS's, but apparently mine (bought in Dec 07) is of the old formulation or else I just don't know the difference. Ignorance is bliss: very happy with it.
I gave my dad his birthday present last night -- two pucks of MWF and a mug of sufficient size. He is a Williams guy and never tried the good stuff. What I didn't realize before, is that his brush is some cheap and ancient little thing made with synthetic material resembling fishing line. So now, I'm headed to C&E to pick up a badger brush as a follow up present. It would be nearly sinful to shave with some delicious expensive soap, applied with what amounts to a big toothbrush!

friday: 01 Feb 08 ~* SOTD *~
Brush:...........Proraso Boar brush
Cream/Soap:..Kent / MWF soap
Razor:............Gillette English Aristocrat # 16
Blade:............Gillette Platinum "Swede" (1st day for current blade)
After Shave:...Proraso Crema Liquida Dopobarba*
*or Proraso Liquid Cream After Shave balm (LCASB) if you prefer...
Yesterday, was the first time in about a week or so that I have gone back to my beloved K / MWF soap. I had been using my complete Proraso setup thanks to tatsuo for sending me some more Crema Pre & Dopo Barba (Pre/Post cream). That setup includes the Proraso boar brush, Proraso Crema Pre & Dopo Barba, Proraso Sapone Da Barba (soap), and the Prorasso Crema Liquida Dopobarba. As always they were excellent shaves.
These last two days, I went back to making lathering in a bowl instead of on my face. Today's lather was the best lather I have ever made. Not only was it the best K/MWF lather but the best of any lather I have made. I just took my time and worked this inexpensive boar brush for abit and magic proceeded to happen.
This is also my first time re-visitng a Gillette "Swede" and I was inspired by Glenn (2clfrwrds) posts about blades...

I will stick to this blade for as long as I can and see if works for me around 7 days like Glenn and Gordon.
