Alfred - you might want to change your SMF signature line while you're at it.
Thanks for telling your side of the story, and for doing your part to set things right. I always thought it was strange/odd/wrong that you had used "that word" in your title, and I'm glad to see it gone for good.
I look forward to doing business with both you and the other guys in the future.

+1. I have known Classic Shaving, Ray and his family (son-in-law, daughter, and wife) since they started out and they are among the most ethical and straight forward people within the wetshaving e-tail/retail community. Since Ray's passing I've seen and personally experienced nothing but a continuance of the quality products and services that Classic Shaving has always been known for. Since none of us know the complete facts and history behind both sides of this it seems unfair to pass judgment in any direction nor do I believe it the place of a forum such as this to "take action" in favor of or against any retailer with an issue of this type.Squire wrote:I'll reserve judgment on this for the time being. Alfred:
The fact that you own "classic shaving.ca" though not using it suggests you may be using this URL to prevent the owner of classicshaving.com from "moving in to" Canada. As a marketing executive in the internet market here in Silicon Valley many company's take defensive action by acquiring derivative URL's of xxx.com for various "international" geographies, ie xxx.ca, xxx.ch, xxx.de. As company's in the US begin to expand in to international markets they find the indigenous URL's held hostage by competitors or speculators who may offer the URL for a premium. I am not accusing by any measure simply pointing out that if I was the owner of classicshaving.com and was beginning to expand and wanted to acquire derivative country specific URL's I'd be a bit annoyed if a competitor already owned it. As we all know the internet knows no geographical bounds.

I honestly think I was right to pass judgment in both directions. There's no possible justification on either side for the way things were yesterday & this morning. Hopefully this afternoon and tomorrow things are changing for the better.fisherc wrote:Since none of us know the complete facts and history behind both sides of this it seems unfair to pass judgment in any direction...
Edit: I didn't know, or didn't pay attention to, the classic shaving.ca domain ownership question. Another thing that needs to be taken care of? This is getting ridiculous. Whether it was wilful hijacking or otherwise, it's not right.
Hi,
You have to be a Candian company, rezident or citizen to get .ca domain. The domain was recently purchased (as a defensive tool) and never used. They purchased fendrihans.com in June when classicshaving.ca was still available?!
Sorry, but I don't see how I stopped their Canadian expansion.
Finally, it is their job to protect their domain. The fact that they made the decision to purchase fendrihans.com but not classicshaving.ca speaks for itself.
Regards,
Alfred

Well you may not know this but several companies act as "internediaries" to provide "in country" access to indigenous URL's to "foreign" company's.
Again I don't know the history and who did what first but I do know that Classic Shaving and the people behind it have been around a long time and are well respected. I have no reason to suspect that you and Fendrihan's as well are not a quality and ethical company.
You suggested in an earlier post that you haven't spoken to Classic about this or that they had not contacted you. Maybe the best thing to do is to call Will up and explain the situation and agree to "trade" the URL's that each of you own that technically should belong to the other. I find that talking these things out directly usually delivers the best result. IMO using SMF as a forum to resolve this is inappropriate and unprofessional.
I'll shut my mouth now.

I do not want to use the forum as an intermediary. I was just responding to a post that involves my business directly. That's all.fisherc wrote: You suggested in an earlier post that you haven't spoken to Classic about this or that they had not contacted you. Aah, what intrigue goes on in the sinister world of shaving. Wonderful stuff! These two could merge and introduce a whole new line of shaving products, call it "Cloak and Dagger". Feel free to use the idea.
Seriously, I've always found this forum a very congenial place and I hope it stays that way. Let's not get drawn into this butting of heads.

Hi,Ambrosia wrote:Alfred there must have been some prior dealing between the 2 of you as they wouldnt have your ip address to block you from their site
by the way an ip address is not set in stone it would be quite easy to get round the ban by bouncing off a proxy server
Actually, there have been no dealings between us. The only time we communicate, or not communicate, was about 14 months ago when I asked them about some Feather blades, they never answer.
Yes, it's easy to get around an IP, it is what I did. I'm not sure why they did it.

As someone stated before, I did not start this. However, I'm guilty of perpetuating by keep answering to different posts that refer to me. So, I'll stop responding to any questions or new posts about me.
To be honest the redirect doesn't affect me so much. It just bothers me since it's a family name that I care about.

Marketing is marketing, if Classic Shaving was concerned about infringement of its trademark it would use lawyers not web gimmicks. These are the games companies play and I don't think it is really any of our concern. People who whose the internet know about redirects. I just typed hutingtonpost.com instead of huffingtonpost.com by accident, oops my mistake.
