The contraction/diminutive "Pippa" of the forename "Philippa" has certain connotations of class in the UK. But, you might say, since it seems that how you brush your hair or tie your laces has similar import, why should one care? U and non-U are still abroad. Is it a lavatory or a toilet? Do you leave the hanging free end of the toilet paper/bathroom tissue at the front or at the back of the roll? Do you sit on a settee, sofa or couch, and do you do so in the living room, lounge, drawing room, front room, back room, parlour or what? Be quick, now. You are being judged, and once made the judgement is permanent. Even the fact of whether you care about these things or not can be used for or against you.
My wife is a Philippa-Anne, and is known as Pippa. Yes, she has attended a garden party at Buck House. Now she's stuck with me in the colonies. If only there were an emoticon for evil laughter....

Late to the party but hey ho.
I like them, both personally (as much as one can without meeting them) and as a concept. An apolitical head of state is a good idea, and our Queeny does a superb job. I think Charles will settle in and become less outspoken once crowned (I am certain he will take it up). People making it out to be a life of luxury seem to miss, deliberately perhaps, that the Queen has her diary booked for months, if not years in advance, besides Bruce Forsythe, I cant think of a harder working pensioner.
I think the hereditary aspect is really no different than any family firm passing the business down, there are plenty of places you will never get to be, I am fine with this.
Having said that, I wouldn't bow to them, I don't think they are better than me, nor anyone else.
If that is not enough, the Crown estates are currently the landlords to GFT off Jermyn Street, so we all have at least one thing we like about them.

I'm an oik, born and raised, from a town notoriously on the anti royalist side in the civil war. We sat on a settee in the lounge. Until needing to go to the toilet, anyway.drmoss_ca wrote:The contraction/diminutive "Pippa" of the forename "Philippa" has certain connotations of class in the UK. I hang the roll with the end of the paper away from the wall. I need to know if this fits my upbringing, or do I need to switch orientation?
