Rooney & Trumpers in Vintage GQ

Post by EL Alamein »

Hi All,

Some of you may know already that I like to read old magazines as a hobby. Well recently I was reading the September 1986 issue of GQ magazine and came across a funny article entitled "The Medicine Cabinet". It's written from the female author's perspective on how to evaluate male love interests by peering into their medicine cabinets.

In typical GQ fashion for the times the magazine misses no opportunity to sell items that men would have in their medicine cabinets. And among the goods pictured are Rooney and Trumpers shaving brushes and shaving soap. They also list the venues these items can be purchased from. It reads like a roster of Gordon's shopping haunts in NYC from back in those days.

Thought you might enjoy the nostalgia.

And those would have been the original Rooneys, before Lee Sabatini briefly revived the brand. I believe Gordon liked them a lot.

There might even have been some real finests in there. You could still get a decent brush in those days, none of these ghastly “gel tips” that are around now.
