Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
I finally ran out of the last of my TOBS tubs of Avocado cream a while back. Went online at the usual places, and no one has any. I discovered it's been discontinued...darn. When did this happen? I did manage to snag two tubes from a local vendor, would only let me order 2 of them , so I guess they're nearing the end of their supplies too. It's one of the nicest scents that Taylor's offered (at least for me ) and now it's gone. Not crazy about some of their newer scents either.

Good to see you, Bruno.
Reports over the years have shown most traditional English soaps and creams to be reformulated for the worse or discontinued altogether. I avoid them because of my sensitivity to fragrance, but hopefully others will chime in here with traditional products that are still good. Sad to hear of the demise of your favorite cream.

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
After decades of using the traditional brands I abandoned them all together. The niche/artisanal brands are vastly superior in terms of efficacy and scent IMO. As they say the only constant in life is change. That said I do occasionally break out my vintage Coates lavender when I want to transport myself back to the 90s.
Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
I have a half tub of the avocado, so I got it out for my next shave. Might as well revel in it whilst I can.

Good to see you too Murray, and everyone as well. To be honest, I've cut back on a lot of 'supplies' and still prefer the Trumpers creams over the others. Mind you, I've had to throw out tubs of various creams because they got too hard lol, the consequence of too much hoarding. And I find that the newer formulations (Harris is one) harden up faster than the older stuff. I still have a few tubes of the Coates, still smell great and perform like none ever have. Right now my favourite soap (cream?) is the almond Tcheon Fung Sing soap, amazing scent, amazing performance, and it is very cheap. I've found as I've gotten older that I still like a close shave but without too much irritation.

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
My favorite commercial soap was the tallow-based Valobra hard soap. This could be found in Valobra Shave Sticks, Valobra cakes, and the older AoS soaps, so I have a substantial hoard of these three. Beyond them, I, too, have turned to artisan soaps for their performance and their natural scents.

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
Bruno, I've experienced the aging creams you mention. However, to my surprise, I've found on a couple of occasions that treating a hard old cream as if it were a soap did result in some very nice results.

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
Hey Gary, I usually add some hot water to the hardened creams and sometimes it does soften up a bit, but some were like a rock and couldn't be salvaged. I had a tub of Coates's Lime which had to be maybe 20 years old, and it was great right up to the end. I'm trying to use up what I have or else I can't bring it all with me
Never mind the thousands of blades which are good for like 10 lifetimes

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
My TOBS Avocado is quite old and has turned a tan colour. But what I notice is that it isn't just avocado scentwise, but there is something floral that has become more prominent with age. Well, maybe it was always there and I don't recall, or maybe the avocado has faded and left this to the fore. Smells like lily of the valley. Very pleasant, but if it weren't for the label, I wouldn't know it was avocado any more!
It still performs wonderfully, even though it is fairly hard.

Re: Taylor Of Old Bond Street Avocado Cream
Yes, agreed Chris. I prefer the more subtle scents like the florals, baby powder, etc. I'm not a big fan of those cologne scented creams, they remind me of that Polo scent which makes me throw up any time I smell it.
I love Sandalwood, Rose, Lavender, Almond, the basics, as long as they perform well.
