SOTD: November 2025

Post by brothers »

This week I'm looking forward to using the Simpsons shaving cream, which is very good when the brush does its magic.

This is my "Why do I ever shave with anything else?" razor. The sharpest of all, closest shaving and does it all without any sensation. The one of a kind O1 tool steel Zowada 17/16:

The first prototype Hart (2009), which shaves better than the commercial ones. It was made by Tim himself, and the extra experience when it comes to grinding certainly shows! Next shave will be with the prototype of the MkII version (2010).
Shave was with Tabac soap (tallow version) and finished with Taylor's Sandalwood. Absolutely no sting, just as if I had not shaved, yet my face is glassy smooth.

It appears that it was so long ago that I've apparently lost almost all memory of "Hart" and "Tim". Sad.

Well, to jog your memory, Gary, here is the prototype of the MkII Hart razor. Superb shave with it today, very close, silent and no sting at all with the Taylor's Sandalwood.

A real shame the QC wasn't beyond criticism when the 'artisans' started making them, though a good one is as good as these ground by Tim Zowada.

Disappointing soap (why can't the French make shaving soap?) and a disappointing razor. You know how you sometimes shave and feel nothing? Either the razor is super sharp or it isn't cutting at all. This was the latter. It will need a new bevel.

Bummer- I experienced something similar last week. After shaving for a couple of minutes I decided my blade just wasn't cutting. Something that never happens - the single blade. Never happened before. 😕 I Changed it out. Put in a new blade and the shave is just perfect. What can I say? 🤨

Also, Martin de Condre soap is never disappointing.
To me! 😛

A 5/8 Hart, this one by "JA." Very close shave, just a little sting with aftershave.
