New Product - Reuzel - Holland's Finest Shave Cream

Post by brothers »

This was on the shelf at a shaving shop. I was told that the barbers speak highly about it. More like the Caswell-Massey shaving creams than the more
commonly known conventional soaps and creams. More related to a lotion than our usual soaps and creams of well-known products. Reuzel comes in a 10-ounce tin. That's a lot of product, compared to the Caswell-Massey 8-ounce bowl. The instructions recommend the use of a brush. In my recent useage, this is not a large cloud of lather. The brush provides the adding of water and spreading the product on the face and whiskers. This "IS" the lather, and is clearly different than most of us expect. With all of that, make no mistake - I really like the final results this shave cream provides. Different and unusual. Made in Holland, and recommended by barbers who shave/touch up of beards.

I bought mine at a shave shop in OKC. When I googled Reuzel hair products on the internet I found their website. They have dozens of grooming products for sale.

Thanks, Gary. I found the website.

Is this a scented product? (It doesn't say on the website.) If so, do you know if it's EO or FO? If so, how strong is the scent?

Thanks.

Murray, the unidentified FO perfume fragrance is almost nonexistent. Listed near the bottom of the numerous ingredients.

I have avoided Reuzel so far, as in my neck of the woods it is marketed as a brushless products.
As I enjoy lathering and the luxurious feel of lather too much, this was a non-starter for me.

It is also quite pricey and the brand seems to concentrate more on products than shaving creams (just one), which all dampened my enthusiasm to try Reuzel.

Sour grapes --- The price I paid - $25 -  The price shown for this 10 ounce Shaving Cream on the website - $24.95 - is anything but "quite pricey".

You're quite correct when you say the company is not a shaving vendor, it is mostly focused on Beard and Hair. As a matter of fact, I believe the Shaving Cream is the one and only shaving product among dozens of hair and beard care. The specific instructions on the shaving cream container
clearly recommend the use of a shaving brush. Thanks, Brutus for your response.

I knew someone going to barber school, so I got haircuts from him a few times. I ended up buying some hair pomade there once. That as the first I ever heard of Reuzel, and I didn't know until now that they also made shaving cream.

Their prices seem to have doubled since the time I bought the pomade maybe 10 years ago.

I'm posting this picture because of the funny name (not "Reuzel", but "Severed Heard").

Reuzel is my shaving cream for this week, starting this morning. After I applied a generous three finger quantity of the rich slick cream I suddenly knew there was no need for a brush. Picked up the razor and enjoyed a perfect brushless shave. This stuff works. For me. Your experience may differ.
This was a three day beard.

Interesting. If it performs well brushless, then I suppose it might be a decent travel option.

Thoughts?

With the headless pig on the pommade, and the guillotine on the shaving cream, I'm beginning to build a psychological picture of this company's two founders.

"Reuzel" is Dutch for lard, from which pommades were once made.
