Does anybody prefer a quick one-pass shave?
Does anybody prefer a quick one-pass shave?
A lot of the time I like to just put a bit of musgo on my face with hand and do one pass to have a decent but not BBS shave. It is good if you like the 'little stubble' look. This is how my brother shaves.

If I have to go out in the evening after work I will sometimes do a quick one pass shave. I still use my brush to make lather on my face. It's sort of a "I'll hit the high spots shave". This way by 9 or 10 PM I don't have too much of a beard showing.

If you are leaving visible stubble beind, what's the point of shaving?obsessis wrote:A lot of the time I like to just put a bit of musgo on my face with hand and do one pass to have a decent but not BBS shave. It is good if you like the 'little stubble' look. This is how my brother shaves.

Some younger people prefer the look. He thinks that it leaves just enough with one pass.

If you want to shave, shave. If you want to leave the beard, leave it alone or use a trimmer. THAT is why it is called "UNSHAVEN!"
Because you have not SHAVED!

What Tony said.
+ Your brother can do whatever he likes.
+ A lot of young guys (teenagers) have untidy facial hair rather than bristles they need a multipass shave like a smack in the gnadgers with a golf club.
+ A single diagonal across the grain pass with a system razor and can of goo is good enough for a lot of people.
+ If you're happy sing, dance, wake the whole household and order jalepeno topped pizza for breakfast. Don't worry about your brothers stubble.
+ If I'm in a real hurry in the mornings I shave in the shower without lather or a mirror I give it one pass - usually with a WS FX Diamond. Later, should someone say "You didn't shave too well this morning." I reply "No." This single pass / supervisor interaction system appears to work extremely well.

I absolutely loathe the one-pass quicky...
...but it beats the alternative up and down the block when I'm running late for work!
That alternative would be shaving in the car with a cordless electric shaver while trying to negotiate the SoCal freeway system -- steering with my knees at 80 mph while simultaneously playing my harmonica, loading and smoking a bowlfulla 'backky in my pipe, calling in late on my cellfone, and sipping a nice, cool *Bucks iced latte!

One pass but a real shave
Hello fellow wet shavers,
Being retired and having the grand luxury of time, extremely seldom are the occasions I might feel prompted to haste in shaving.
Haste makes waste.
Now and then during the late afternoon or early evening (I am a day person), the desire to have a really smooth, cleanly shaved face moves me to a second shave, this time usually one pass.
For this "quick shave" I often apply a brushless shaving cream like Lucky Tiger Mollé.
A good shave is a nice experience.
Kind regards,
lux

Damn! You made me end a sentence with a preposition again!
edit: I didn't shave for 4 or 5 weeks or so like three months ago (sick) and my first shave was with my trusty AC. That thing mowed down ALL of the thick facial hair with no problem. It was a one pass shave that would've easily been perfect with a little touchup with PSO/injector I always use.

Ahem. I did a one-pass shave a couple of weeks ago. I spent the rest of the day rubbing my face and grunting with dissatisfaction, until the Missus threatened me. I'll stick with two passes, I think.

Intresting, I never pictured you as that old. My mental image of you was in your mid 30's. Unless you retired really yound and are independantly wealthy then of course you could be in your 30's.
Sorry for the random thoughts.

There was a time when I would have killed to have a 5 o'clock shadow. It was when I was a teen. I think it may have been called "designer stubble" at the time. I had a naturally occurring BBS face.
These days, if I don't have time for a good shave (20 minutes or so if I go all out 3 passes and T&C etc.) I skip it altogether. Why bother making the effort and not getting any decent result?

Agreed, but I think a one-pass DE shave would be inferior to a one-pass mach3 shave.thestubblefactory wrote:I say that a skilled one-pass DE or SR shave is better than any multi-pass shave by other methods. Well your question was do I prefer a quick one pass shave. No I do not. I also wouldn't do a single pass shave anymore. As stated above if I can't do it my way I don't want to do it. Now if I do one pass and my wife says she got the time wrong and we need to leave NOW then I wash off and get dressed feeling confident that I will still have a better shave than most where we are going.
I usually make sure that I begin shower and prep with enough time so as not to have to make it one pass. Difference between 1 pass and 3 pass is no more than 10 min. so it isn't that difficult to alot the time.

I often do a single pass Feather AC shave as I am in the elements in my line of work. When I do a couple passes I'm more likely to get a nick and of course one's skin is more sensitive. With the Feather and the one pass shave I get a very acceptable shave to the cheeks neck and upper lip but I"m still working on the chin were I may leave a litte stubble which is unnoticeable to the eye. I'll keep at it as one improves over time. When I think back to when I started it took too much time for me to use the AC on a daily basis, now I am faster with the AC than the DE and use it everyday. I would have never reached the stage I am at if I had to strop and hone a razor. One day I'll take up that exercise when I have a lot more time but this is the way to go for the forseeable future.
