Where are you from?

Where am I from?
A rather complex question don't you think
I reside in western Michigan near Traverse City and Grand Rapids.

The arse kicking state of Rhode Island, the first of the original 13 original colonies to claim its independence from England, but the last among them to join the Union.

Hungerford, England. www.hungerford.co.uk
Hungerford is a small town 65 miles west of London and home to about 6000 people. The town officially started in 1343 when the Lord of the Manor gave Hungerford to the towns people. This means to this day we have the right to graze two cattle on the common or marshes, fish for trout and have an equal part of the town hall & pub!
Our own house dates from 1530 during the reign of King Henry Eigth, (the one with the six wives), and still has a roof made from water reeds (thatch).
If anyone is passing through England, Hungerford is well worth a look and I would be delighted to meet you.
Regards,
Robert

How far are you from Mineral Wells, Texas. For some inexplicable reason when I was in the Army they decided to assign me for a short period of time to a small military base in Mineral Wells (don't even remember the name of the hell-hole base). Coming from densely populated New England I really felt in the middle of no-where. Flat, dry, dusty, Christ, a Texas block was bigger than my entire home state of RI. "Interesting" storms with their horizontal lightening, and bugs bigger than my car. I remember while serving as duty officer having to face off some man-eating spider with a can of spray paint ... if I used my .45 on the bastard it just may of upset some of the higher-ups ... but it was a close call ... bullet or paint? I really should have had that bastard stuffed, just so my story would be believed. Ahh, yes, and this was the only place where you could have your air conditioner set on high and still sweat your testicles off. HEY, WHAT IS THIS ... TRASHING TEXAS? Well, how 'bout this, while on a trip to southern California I got hung-up (better than getting hung, I reckon) in Texas ... Dallas Airport. My wife loved the airport ... vehicles inside the building and gift shops selling oh-so-cute armadillos ... no, not live ... stuffed toys.
From the bunkhouse ...

Charles,
Your account of your delightful stay in Texas cracked me up
!
If you exclude the area of Narragansett Bay, the land mass of Rhode Island is about 1,045 square miles.
People in Texas seem to like comparisons to Rhode Island.
For example, it's about the size of the area covered by Houston's bus system, about the size of the King Cattle Ranch near Corpus Christi and the same size as Big Bend National Park in western Texas.
My county is almost as big as RI at 886 square miles. But I digress
.
As they say here in Texas, "Y'all come back now, pardner!"
Cheers,
Richard
