A Dubious Distinction
Well, here I am, my 10,000th post on SMF. Incredible....and somewhat disturbing, no doubt, in it's implications,,,,sigh. Too much time on my hands for one thing....can't deny that. But, it's been an interesting journey. I was not actually one of the early members of SMF. This forum was originally a splintering off from the MSN Wetshavers group, and under somewhat of a cloud, to boot. There were still two Wetshavers forums at that time, and I was a moderator on the slower one, and active on the larger one ( if those posts were added to these, God knows what the number would be by now....shudder ). So, there was plenty of good 'shave yak' there, and I had my doubts about this crowd. This was in July of 2004. So, I just continued doing what I was doing, and I checked in to take a look at SMF once every few days. And, every few days was often enough, because other then a number of informative and interesting reviews of shaving soaps and other stuff by Chris Moss, not a whole lot was going on. But, by the end of that year things seemed to be picking up, and it seemed that SMF would 'make it' afterall. So, in Feb. of the following year I joined, because I just couldn't refrain from sticking my oar into the water any longer. And over the following two years, Wetshavers started to lose energy, and SMF continued to grow, and here we are. There have been a number of reasons for this, but among the most important have been Vince's largely unseen, but intelligent and mature stewardship of the forum that he created, and Chris Moss' and John's active and judicial discharge of their duties as administrators. We all owe them a debt of gratitude. So, a 'thank you' to all members, past and present, for continuing to make SMF an interesting and pleasant place for me to hang out and blather away about some of my favourite topics.
Regards,
Gordon

Gordon,
Congratulations! A job well done old man. Your contributions have been monumental. Every time Tony and I get together we always end up talking about your incredible knowledge of this crazy hobby. We just sit there and shake our heads in disbelief.
Get some rest and start working on the next 10,000. WE are so blessed to have you here.
Regards,
Bill

Don't think......shave.
Gordon;
From one of the oldtimers; count me among the many who truly appreciate what you have meant to the forum. You are truly the embodiment of the old saying that how one says something is just as important as what one says. You are a true gentleman.

Life is too short not to use a sharp blade and a good brush.

Gordon,
I joined the original WetShavers shortly after you did. I remember you stating that Vulfix was not using silvertip in their brushes and Ray Dupont questioning you about your sources. You were spot on then and have been spot ever since. Your depth of knowledge and experience is amazing.
You have helped me so much over the years. So thanks for so much!

Gordon, it would be interesting to do a retrospective of the shaving forums. I joined Wetshavers, and The Wetshavers, oh, say the day after the split. I forget to go over to Don's board, even though I am a mod also, because of the vitality of this forum. I also remember getting a call from Joel when things got heated a bit. Would be need to see what the brush, soap, cream and blade of the day was back when Wetshavers was very active versus what they are now.

Gordon,
In recognition of your achievements in the field of wet shaving and your prolific contribution to this fine forum, I have, after pulling a few strings with people in high places (and more than a few people in low places) been able to secure you an award from none other than the Gillette Corporation itself!
A lifetimes supply of fusion power razor cartridges and gillette fusion hydra gel (Ultra Sensitive with Aloe and Vitamin E).

"I don't know whether my life has been a success or a failure. But not having any anxiety about becoming one instead of the other, and just taking things as they come along, I've had a lot of extra time to enjoy life."
Gordon,
Warmest congrats to a tremendous forum resource, a shaving encyclopedia, a fearsome scourge of errant shaving goods manufacturers and purveyors, and a true gentleman in all respects. And, naturally, the Duke abides also as a remarkable example of shaving-goods fidelity and parsimony: 10,000 posts and, erm, maybe 2 of those in the "FS" Forum!!!???
all best,
k

Good show David. Now he will sell it on Ebay and buy all the expensive brushes and colognes he desires. LOLExapno wrote:Gordon,
