So I've been shaving for the most part for the last 2 weeks with a '56 Blue Tip Super Speed, with pretty good shaves. I went 2 weeks on the blade, as I don't shave every day, and due to time contraints, I used my fusion once.
I decided this weekend to do one side of my face with the super speed, and the other side with the '70 Super Adjustable I got from a sale off this board. I left the adjustable on 3, as 2 felt exactly the same as the SS.
I used the same Derby - started in the SS, finished in the Adjustable.
The results were pretty conclusive. The Adjustable removed in 2 passes what the SS didn't quite get in 3. I know I'm a n00b, and the blue tip is considered a mild razor for starter, but I gotta say, I'm pretty sure that blue tip is going to be going to a new shaver in a few weeks.
No nicks, no cuts, no weepers, no burn, and I finished up the SS side with the adjustable. The only difference was Aqua Velva burned like a mofo after this shave, where normally I barely feel it.

This means you removed a lot of skin. Something was seriously wrong with your shave.Jefe wrote:So I've been shaving for the most part for the last 2 weeks with a '56 Blue Tip Super Speed, with pretty good shaves. Same thing happend to me the first time I used a cut throat.
Great shave but Velva burned pretty good.
Once I got it down the burn went away, just because you really don't have irritation dose not mean your not shaving too close.
Some times too close can be a bad thing however since you don't shave everyday it may be ok for you.
Use an ABAS as a yard stick but if you still get good shaves and lots of pain from it switch to a non alcoholic.

I'll echo what others have said, I can take a blue tip to 2-3 days stubble and be bbs in 3 passes, no problem. This is one of the main reasons I dislike the term "mild" applied to razors, it lets the user write off so so technique on the razor rather than technique. That said, if the adjustable worked better, I'd stick with that and use it until you no longer feel that degree of burn from an aftershave; after a couple of months you might revisit the blue tip with improved technique and realize that it's quite a competent tool. good luck
