The Ghost of P160

Post by rsp1202 »

I'm hearing chatter that RazoRock will be bringing back (their take on) P160. The Italian Barber has announced such on Facebook, so any social networkers here might want to check it out.

I know there are ardent fans out there for each brand of the almond scented Italian shave soaps but I find them almost interchangeable both in scent and use. I wouldn't want to see any of them go away of course and if one is brought back then so much the better.

Cella seems to work well enough for me, and I am not too sure you could make it better or different, But still i keep an open mind. Either way the formula most likely will be new as all European cosmetics have been changed due to parabens since the demise of the original 160. I read on the English forum how they get a chuckle over our hype of the product. Time will tell if it is truly different and better than cella, or just something we longed for that is now readily available again.

I like Cella quite well, as I did P190. Bioth, for me we're replacements for the sadly discontinued C&E Sweet Almond Oil cream. A good almond cream is a staple, in y mind, in any shaving den. Ymmv.

Wendell, I agree. Although I'm not nuts about ( no pun intended ) that bakery shop style scented almond shave product it is a classic and I almost always keep some around. For me though it has always been one of the old school English almond creams. I think that they're all good. Coate's ( in the pots ) was my favourite but they didn't seem to differ all that much, the far less expensive Taylors being usually just about as good as the higher priced ones. Those Italian almond soft soaps never really did it for me, the lather was never quite as thick/rich as I like it. But that Barbiaria Colla stuff from Milan that Chris Fisher originally turned us on to was the exception for me. That soap produced more the type of lather that I fancy. On the whole though, I mainly stick to the English creams. At the moment it's that little bit of Trumpers Almond in the tube that I still have left.

I like the almond scents, all of them or at least the ones I've tried.

I'm rather excited about the rebirth of P160 2.0. I hope it's good.

I love the scents of these Artisan Almond soaps and I do find that they lather more or less on an even par.
I find that the Almond scent 'dissipates' from the soap and to me they just smell of tallow after a while. For me, it takes a lot more
effort to get a decent lather out of them then their English counterparts which lather with hardly any effort.
The great thing is that they are very cheap and give good value for the money, especially if they are tallow based.

It's notable that the proprietors of the Italian Barber are prone to create new products seemingly at the drop of a hat, so to speak. What a refreshing contrast to the giants (dinosaurs i.e. Trumpers). What a novel approach, making new stuff that people love to buy, as opposed to taking the existing products that have been around for ages, and changing the tried and true formulae to make their products worse. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. GO Italian Barber!

I agree with this - I've tried a few of them and there doesn't appear to be much of a difference. I started to find the chemical scent a bit cloying after a while.

Probably the only exception to this was Acca Kappa but that was a true cream. Good stuff.
