Marshall: I got a Futur, set it at 1 (or maybe up to 1.5), and have never changed the setting. The Futur is resting in the shave cabinet now; it's big, heavy and bulky. Keep the setting low to start and respect the weight of the razor. Hope you like it better than I did mine. Best, John.

Dan: Just apply a fairly liberal quantity to your face with your hands/fingers (after hot water, shower, or whatever else you do - Pacific Shave Oil would be good for you before applying your cream/soap) and then, very gently and N-S only, shave. GO EASY; slowly. Think comfort first; the Noxema skin...

Dan: Tub of what? If it's Proraso Shave soap, you will need to lather it up with your brush. If it's Proraso pre/post (which I recommend you try based on the troubles you've been having), then just apply it to your face like a cream both before your lather and after you shave. Best, John.

SWMBO knows better than to pay any attention or to comment. She does enjoy critiquing my various colognes, but ONLY when invited and then just for fun. I also give her an occasional sample of something that is clearly too femme for me. Best, John.
