Where are you from?

Thoughts and input on anything related to wet shaving or men's grooming.

I live in Madison, AL. Basically a suburb of Huntsville, AL, home of the US Army's Redstone Arsenal (lots of missile R&D done here) and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Literally, a town full of rocket scientists.

Von Braun settled here after WWII and jump started our space and missile programs. Teams of German scientists came here in waves afterwords. There is still a strong German community here. Probably one of the few places where you can get Schnitzel and fried green tomatoes on the same plate at a cafeteria, and not think anything of it :)

I went to Space Camp there in 1984. I recently saw pics of what it looks like now and it has changed considerably since I've been there.

Gents,

Don't forget that in your Profile, you can list a city, state or even country that will display with every post. It's helpful sometimes when somone asks about availabilty of a product or service.

I was born in New Orleans and lived there until I was 18. My parents still live there (they were fortunate in the recent events). I then went to college in Tuscaloosa, AL, graduate school in San Antonio, TX and now I'm working in Portland, OR.

I was born in Kassel, Germany and now I live in Bonn, Germany.

What is great for a straight razor addict is that this place is
near Solingen (60 km) where Wacker and DOVO reside.

Actually I have only been there once for a visit to the Solingen blade museum. But maybe one day I'll pay a visit to master Wacker to buy some razors (I own 2 Wackers I purchased directly from Mr. Wacker ( http://www.wacker-rasiermesser.de ) on a trade fair near Solingen: http://www.nassrasurboerse.de , see some pictures here: http://www.nassrasur.com/host/nrmesse1/, http://www.nassrasur.com/host/nrmesse2/)

Best regards

Sorry if its too much information, but there's no easy answer for me as to "where i'm from." I do feel like taking a road trip with my girlfriend south (rather than north as i'm a warm weather person) and then west to see the country, and to meet many of the forum members that i can call my friends (maybe "borrow" a Porsche from a certain someone in N. Carolina?), but that's material for possibly another thread.

Thanks,
Going from New York to NC, you'll have to drive through my neck of the woods in Central VA. While you are here, my wife and I would love to go out to dinner with you and your girlfriend. We can also put our two "new" Merkurs together so they can have a discussion amongst themeslves about who shaves better.

Art, your town in Virginia would no doubt be one of our stops, and dinner would be great, although i think if you put a couple of shaveg.....i mean, shave enthusiasts in the same room, we run the risk of boring the women to death :? . It's still worth a try, though this road trip to see the "real" America at this point seems to be a long shot.
Now that i've used both the HD and the Long Handle, i can say that i prefer the HD as i find that the shorter and thicker handle give me more control; what about you Art?
Best regards buddy,

Mahesh,

Then it looks like the women will have to find something to talk about themselves!! ha ha When were you thinking of planning this trip?

I actually prefer the Long Handle to the short...big hands And you know what they say about men with big hands.

Pomona is the only city in Cali I have been in. Flew into Ontario, drove to Pomona, ran the new 2006 Civic around a track at the fair grounds, back to the airport and home. All in one day.

VX,

You're not far from me at all. I work in Monrovia at Mt. Sierra College and I live in West Covina.

I'm only a few hours from Midlothian, VA as I live in York, PA.

I'd be up for a roadtrip too.

Edit: 100 posts. Hehe.
